What would you say to a Governing Body member if you had the chance?
A few years back while I was a JW I visited my sister and brother-in-law at Bethel. Well, after the grand tour of Crooklyn, the farm and having dinner with the Bethel “family” I had the “honor” of attending the Sunday meeting at a congregation where a couple of the Governing Body members attended. I remember sitting behind one, I think it was Swingle (sp?) who was there with his wife who had a stroke. I spoke with him for a little bit and he was ok. I wish I could say he was an ass but other then being a little arrogant, he wasn’t too bad. And I do have to say that he was nice to my two kids. But one thing has stuck with me all this time. There wasn’t a “mad rush” to sit by these GB members. Though there was a group around them after the meeting, I didn’t have to wait too long to speak to him. I’ve often thought “what would I say to him now.” Would I have a backhanded comment, would I say something nice but thought provoking or would I tell him that he’s an a-hole who has shared in ruining thousands of lives. What would you say to him?
You know, for the price of a plane ticket to NY, one could have a conversation with a real-live GB member. Could be fun!

Britain Top Man In Europe
by Englishman inas 12 european countries, including the dominant german and french communities, prepare for the introduction of the euro, great britain stands pretty well alone in witholding the sacrifice of it's currency.. january 1, 2002, sees the complete ending of the mark, franc, escudo, peseta, drachma and other currencies as most of europe chooses to totally adopt the new monetary system, the euro.. britain has come in for a welter of criticism for holding back from joining the rest of europe until it deems that the time is right.. recent figures now show that britain has the highest gdp in europe, trailing only behind the usa and japan worldwide.
the foretold recession is also reckoned to miss britain, a growth of 2 - 3% holding up the economy.. a recent survey shows that the british now spend almost 21% of their income on leisure activities, whereas the rest of europe manage an average of about 12%.. is this a good time to be british?
maybe so, if recession hammers into the us and japan it could well be the best country in the world to live in once more.. englishman.. bring on the dancing girls!

Why are witnessess persecuted?
by YoYoMama inwhy are witnessess persecuted?
most religions out there have this thing against witnesses.
many will do anything to get them banned or to shut their mouths.

Going next door and tell your neighbor that his wife is a whore and see what happens. Well, the JWs have been telling people for years that their religions are whores. People don't like that.

Dwight Eisenhower raised a JW!!!
by cellomould incheck this link folks.
http://www.premier1.net/~raines/papers.html.
just one of the places where you can read a very interesting paper revealing the religious background of ike eisenhower.. i am sure many of you are quite familiar with this paper, but it has not been discussed on this site, at least in the last year.. since it is very long, look for some highlights:.

Hey You Know, thank God that Ike didn't become a JW. If he had, he would have been like all the other JW Americans who did nothing to stop the Nazis. Without Ike, D-Day might have failed and Europe would have been in the grips facisim for decades to follow.

Nothing has changed
by Norm inhaving read some of the posts in the military tribunal thread make me wonder about the perspective of the american population in general.
it seems to be more egocentric then ever.
the understandable outrage and indignation caused by the despicable and horrible acts on 9/11 seem to have caused little or no global perspective.

I wish I had more time to write a response but one thing I wanted to again mention. If I remember correctly, Israel has a population arond 6 million. About 1 - 2 million of these citizens are Muslims. These Muslims enjoy much more freedon in Israel then they would living in Jordan, Iraq, Syria or Iran. This to me speaks volumes.

Excellent reply expatbrit.
I simply find it amazing that some people still think that these religious fanatics can be reasoned with. And now with this latest tape showing Ben Laden laughing and gloating about killing thousands of people just show how sick he is. This is the man that Hamas and the PLO idolize. Just as with the Nazis, there is no reasoning with them.
And I’ve grown so sick of people complaining about Americans. The US military is being so careful with their bombing it’s ridiculous. Then we also feed them. I can’t understand what people want us and the Israelis to do???? Don’t they understand that Jordan, Egypt, Syria, Iran, Iraq and other nations simply want to wipe out Israel? -

I don't have any sources of legal advice but this reminded me of something. My brother-in-law has been at Bethel for years but has been injuried several times. Sometimes while playing basketball but a few other times while at work. He was told that if he gets injured again, that he will have to pay for it himself. I always thought that was kind of cruel. Oh well, I guess when you become a slave, you get treated as one.
Good luck to you though. -

One of the saddest things here in Chicago is the fact that many black...ok...African American city leaders find it to their advantage to keep their community poor. It's sickens me to see these aldermen-for-life individuals who haven't done shi* for the people they represent.
And regarding Jesse Jackson. He's the biggest crook of them all. Here is a man who has lived off of other people donations and then uses the money to live a life of luxery. Heck, he even spent thousands of dollars to "move" his mistress to the west coast and then bought her a house.
On the other hand, I see two black Americas. One follows the same old crap and the other is moving up the economic ladder. Few people realize that the black community are doing better and better. But this doesn't make for something to complain about.
Heck, Colin Powell could have been VP if he wanted to, and probably President in 8 years. I would have voted for him. -

Addition To post on Disfellowshipping!
by Bill Parker ini should have closed with the following comnment on my post.. when the clean-up is finally done by the messiah through the angels it will be fair and just.
no one at that time will be able to argue what he does.they will not be able to say it is a cruel practice.
it wasn't in the 1st century as i showed in the article.

You Know,
Either way you look at it, Jesus "kindly addressed" Judas. Judas was no longer a close associate of Jesus, which I can except if that's the way JWs want to treat those who leave the WT. BUT, again Jesus set the example by treating him kindly, the very man who betrayed him.
Can you imagine Jesus today, being on earth and not talking to a teenage JW who is df'd for smoking or perhaps a person with a drinking problem? I can't. Can you? Can you really imagine Jesus agreeing with the Society's rules on dfíng people for disagreeing with them? As a matter of fact, YOU should be df'd (yeah, I know this was discussed before). Again, Christian love and Christ example do not jive with the WT's dfíng policy. And we all know it. It's simply a weapon them use to keep people in line. -

You Know,
Here's Vine's definition...
>> <A-2,Noun,2083,hetairos>
"a comrade, companion, partner," is used as a term of kindly address in Matt. 20:13; 22:12; 26:50. This, as expressing comradeship, is to be distinguished from No. 1, which is a term of endearment. Some mss. have the word in Matt. 11:16; the best have heterois, others, AV and RV, "fellows." See FELLOW.<<Used here, it's not meant as a "close persinal friend" however as Vine's says "a term of kindly address." So if JW's were to follow Jesus' example, they should "kindly address" df'd ones, not ignore them.
