I just sent the reporter of that story an e-mail with my comments and referenced her to the http://www.ajwrb.org/ web site.
The JW's "no blood transfusion" is child abuse.

Jeez, these aholes lived just a short drive away. I wish that the parents could be beaten to death. I hope that they receive the death penalty for what they did to their daughter and their other kids.

2 weight 2 measures - depends on who's on...
by wheelwithinwheel inmisbehaving elders treated with understanding.
weve had a few cases of elders being accused of serious stuff around here over the last few years.
if you are a "mere" publisher, not currently occupying a position, dont try fooling around like this.

>>Then it became known that he might remain an elder but lose some privileges such as meeting parts.<<
I have never heard of an elder loosing his privileges. It has been my exp. that either you're an elder or you're not. I've seen elders reduce their number of parts because of health issues or a sudden and temp. demand of their time but I've never seen an elder have "part" of his privileges taken away. If he's not qualified to teach at the Hall, what's the point in keeping him an elder?
Ok, i'm sounding way too much like a JW, but your post kind of struck me as odd. -

I always have to chuckle when I hear a JW blame the lack of growth in western Europe, the US and Canada on "those countries being materialistic." When in reality it's that the people in those counties just have better access to ALL the information. Poor cults. The information boom is a real set back for them. I always thought that the JW's would peak and then kind of remain steady. But now I'm wondering if the next few years will see a dramatic decrease in numbers. Is a 10 - 20% decrease in the US and western Europe over the next five years possible?

DA'd myself today
by Pierced Angel inwell, i did it.. it's official and i'm relieved.. the elders wanted to try talking to me once again, but after awhile it was obvious that they were only interested in changing my thoughts not answering any questions.
so, i just calmly asked if i could disassociate myself.
they acted stunned and they got tears in their eyes, but i told them that i had already grieved and was ready to move on with life.

Though it's sad in a way because you end up saying good bye to so many people, it is empowering. Soooo CONGRATS!!!

Secret Agenda
by ItsJustMe inmore than likely this will sound like a naive question to some of you, but what is your theory as to the wbts' secret agenda?
i don't see any of them living it up....as far as i know all the governing body lives at bethel year round, eating in the cafeteria with everyone else.. what would their reason be to collect & hoard money, or belong to the un?

Power. You won't get a chance to ask a GB member, but ask an elder or ex-elder. Having had a taste of it, it can be very intoxicating. I can only imagine what it must feel like to be a GB member, someone who most JWs view as Christ on earth. Someone who's every word view as directly from God. Someone's who's viewpoint is equal to the Bible.

YMCA=apostasy?
by TweetieBird inreferences have been made recently about joining the ymca is considered apostasty by the wts.
what action could be taken against someone (inactive jw that occasionally goes to meetings, they still give me a km each month even tho i haven't been in service for a couple of years and i do not attend the thursday nite meeting) like me?
the reason i am asking is because we joined the ymca a few months ago and have a draft taken out of our bank account for the membership dues.

Recently I wrote a letter to the Society asking if there was a new understanding about the YMCA since the WT Society had itself joined an organization (the UN thing) that itself condems. Haven't heard from them. I'm sure that mine is in some trash bin with thousands of others.

ISP,
Yeah, techincally they didn't even need to have a jc. But since the local elders are nuckle heads, I thought I'd play around with them. The PO called me up and asked if what my then wife told him was true, that I had joined the YMCA. I said yup. He said "Ok, we'll get back to you." (At that time I had stepped down as an elder and stopped going to the meetings for several months) So about 6 months later he calls and sets up the first jc. I go and meet with these three guys. We go over the 79 WT article. I start to explain to them why I feel that the YMCA is isn't a church but rather just a place that families go to exercise. Obviously they weren't going to side with me, so after a short dicussion I was df'd. I appealled. Not sure why. Trouble just to be irritating. A couple of months later we had another jc. The elders at this one were a little shaper. We discussed the YMCA (is it isn't it a church) etc...etc. Then one the elders said "You know, this whole jc isn't even needed. By joining the YMCA you da'd yourself." I said "Duh" and asked if they could wrap things up because Monday Night Football was going to be starting soon. So they told me I was da'd.
Funny thing is, by this time I had belonged to the YMCA for almost a year, coached a WHOLE bunch of differnt teams, and all the while my JW family had no problem associating with me. Then when I was "officially" da'd *poof* nothing. Not even a hello. Sad religion that these people sell their lives to. -

I was da'd one year ago for joining the YMCA. I wrote a letter to the YMCA headquaters and they made a call to someone in Brooklyn but nothing much more then that. I also wrote the Society, not so much because I wanted to be a JW but more to just find out what they'd say. Never got a response.
Feel free to e-mail me if you want some details.
