What are some things JWs re-name to make themselves different than Christians?

jws re-name things so they seem like they are different than other religions.

(of course we know they are different but that's another story).

i was just thinking about those things where they are like most everyone else in christendom but the re-name it to seem different.. for example god forbid they have a church, it's a "kingdom hall".. they don't have pastors and deacons they have "elders" and "ministerial servants".. they don't have tithing but they will have family heads fill out a paper saying how much they can contribute on a monthly basis (not sure if there is a name for that...unless it's tithing.

A friend of mine (worldly person) attended the kingdom hall (church) with me once out of curiosity. During the Watchtower study (indoctrination session) he heard the JW phrase "reaching out" and asked me what it meant. I replied "brown-nosing" and explained that it only applied to brothers (baptized males). During the rest of the meeting my friend paid particular attention to those brothers that had privileges (microphone carrying) and to those brothers who answered the questions read by the Watchtower overseer (religious instructor).

After the meeting ones of these brothers came over to introduce himself and his wife (love bombing) to my friend. After introductions (start the field service time clock) my friend sarcastically said to the brother "It was good to see you reaching out in your church today." The wanna-be ministerial servant (church cleaner) replied: "Thank you. I always try to put Jehovah (Watchtower corporation) first in all things." My friend broke down in laughter.

This is going to make for one interesting read and the joining of the dots. Keep in mind Angus Stewart QC often divides up his line of questioning on a specific subject to break the chain of thought of the witness being questioned. Now we just have to put the puzzle together.

I have just watched The Godfather movies 1,2 &3 this past week.

many years ago i had only seen the third movie and had never seen the first two for some reason ,so i saw them on stan this past week and enjoyed every second of it.. their were even occasions i could see the gb being depicted in it s portrayal of the rc church... its 45th anniversary is coming up this week since it was first shown in cinemas.

what is your view of this trilogy ?

could you please introduce the phrase "spiritual generation" to replace the phrase "overlapping generation".

poopie - No such thing as overlapping generation it's one generation.

Correct, but the eschatology developed by the guardians of the doctrine within the Jehovah's Witnesses currently states there is an overlapping generation.

Methinks that there could very well be a few members of the governing body, except for maybe Geoffrey Jackson, that could be willing to develop the opinion that a "spiritual generation" might be a more practical idea.

wanton - A spiritual generation would not be the last, not ending, but go on into eternity.

Exactly. A "spiritual generation" would never end but go on into eternity. Problem solved for this generation of the governing, and the jehovah's witnesses, as well as the next generation of the governing body, and the jehovah's witnesses, the later generation being an overlapping of the previous generation as well as the next generation.

Jesus was a spiritual man. Evidently when he spoke of "this generation" he was referring to a "spiritual generation".

My letter to the Australian Royal Commission regarding case study #29 Jehovah's Witnesses

someone suggested i would address a letter not only to mr. angus stewart, but also to the royal commission as well.

it merges the two subjects on the same letter (inactive status and shunning; two witness rule), and adds some things more that what i said to mr. stewart.
