as the stanford experiment (and many real life cases show) this sort of thing is bound to happen if there is no guidance. sadly its human nature.

yeru,
It took ten years for Germany to become stable enough to govern itself
it took 4 not 10 years until the first election.
besdes you are missing the qualitative difference between the two cases. germany was a high tech country with highly educated and motivated people whose heritage lies i western culture with western ideals and family structures.
iraq as arab islamic country has completely different social structures, a strong religious believe system which holds them back and a large number of very poor uneducated people. to make this into a working democracy and not just some US satellite state will be very complicated (if that would be the true intention).

Wasn't Saddam ousted for doing precisely this sort of thing?
by Simon inutterly disgusting.
those responsible should be lined against a wall and shot.
publicly.. i think that would win more hearts and minds than bombing cities and using gunships on civilian areas.. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4855930/.

xena,
yes it makes sense!
the question should really be what could be done to stop the killing on all sides.

xena,
yes things get sometimes to black and white in the discussions - on both sides i would assume.
nevertheless it seems most people do not care about the lives of enemies. if you are an exception to that than thats commendable.

Why didn't Sadam........?
by confusedjw ingoing back to the pre-war rhetoric it seemed to me that even the german and russian intelligence along with the english and american intelligence and previous inspectors all agreed that sadam had left over (and possibly made more) chemical wmd.
proof seemed to be provided about what they *knew* he had at *some point* and it couldn't be accounted for.. it seems obvious now that sadam did, in fact, destroy it long ago.. my question - why didn't he just prove it to the inspectors?
why not avoid all of this if he could?

xena,
is to be blamed on the US and no one else!

yeru,
No one took away palestinian houses or killed anyon'es kids or performed any air raids. Up until 1948 the Jews were buying land and converting swamps and deserts into productive farms, building modern cities from the ruins of an ancient an forgotten city, etc. They were doing their best to live in peace beside the Arabs with some exceptions of course. You just don't get it, the Palestinains had their chance, and they chose war...they are reaping the "benefits" of that choice even now.
problem is most people especially in the arab world do not agree with your assessment of the situation.
