  jehovah's witness elders are really managers appointed by headquarters to manage the local operation of the kingdom halls.

  forget all this "spirit appointed" stuff.

  they cannot make a decision without following wt directives, or checking the wt bound volumes, or contacting brooklyn itself..."hello service department?...help!

  The "Elders" are not competent to help people with family, spiritual, or emotional problems. These "Elders" consider managing the affairs of the local congregation more important than any severe problem a Brother or Sister might have. They are imposters, given a fake mantle of authority, not earned by any ability other than an ability to present themselves as a "Watchtower Man," ready to support directives and policies of the almighty WT organization no matter what they are.

  Sounds like Walter Karasek. Remember him?

  I was in the La Jolla Congregation. I helped build the KH on Mt. Soledad. I had a friend in the East County area (Lemon Grove or Spring Valley) named Rob Safford. He was a very bright individual with a bit of a bad attitude which made me wonder if he ever left the JW's. Anyone know him?

  Interesting point.

  Many Jehovah's Witnesses do not understand history and therefore cannot understand why they were presecuted by the Nazi's. The Nazi's started as a small group after the World War I. When Hitler joined up there were fewer than 20 members. From this small group they took over the country in a dozen years time. Hitler and his fellow fanatics believed that their success was a result of their strong and unshakeable will. (Note that German filmaker Leni Rieftenstahl named her documentary about the Nazi Party rally "Triumph of the Will.") The Nazi's saw similar characteristics in the German Bible students. They also saw that they were financed and controlled from America. From the Nazi frame of mind it was impossible to understand that a group such as the Bible Students did not have political goals. Refusing to accept this fact the Nazi's actually feared (and respected) the Bible Students. Thus the persecution. Remember that any Bible Student who renounced his faith was released (not an option available to Jews, homosexuals or gypsies).

  I do not agree with what the Nazis did by any stretch of the imagination but given mindset and experience it is understandable. The witnesses may believe that Hitler persecuted them because they were the one true religion, but the real reason was as stated above.

  Birthdays & the Cult of the Diminished Indi...

  yesterday was my birthday.

  i got greetings from a number of friends from here in atlanta and also from people who had never met me from around the world since my birthday announcement was carried on a couple of the central bear pages on the internet.. there is clearly no prohibition against birthdays in the bible.

  the reason the watchtower prohibits birthday celebrations is the same reason they discourage college, extracurricular activities in school, etc.

  One problem that we face as former dubs (especially those of us whose parents converted to dubdom while we were small) is that we have little experience in birthday customs or traditions. For instance I have an etiquette question: At a child's birthday party does the beheading take place prior to or subsequent to the playing of "Pin the tail on the Donkey."

  Kind of like growing up in the Soviet Union under Stalin. I was sent down to the principal's office for mis-behavior once when I was in third grade. I didn't tell my parents but was fearful that Comrade Elder might find out and then one night at the end of the service meeting I would be sent to the spiritual gulag (disfellowshipped).
