Still thinking, I bet it didn't have seat belts and the air conditioning were the little triangle windows beside the windshield, and openings in the floorboard manuvered with a pull handle

Yes big mac, I remember our TV that was black and white, and when we first got one in color. I watched neil Armstrong walk on the moon in the black and while. I also remember the first TV we had with a remote control! My sister and we figured out that if we wiggled a metal chain belt ( from one of our groovy outfits) in front of the sensor on the front it would change the channel. ( This TV also had the dial channel) . We had two good stations ond one fuzy one, and the TV channels would go off at night. Do you remember the sign off?

steve2 I do cling to that idea of "So, yes, do not lament someone being baptized into the Watchtower - it will probably be the impetus for their eventual leaving. "
But the eventuality stemming from leaving after the Watchtower baptism, of the shunning by family still in, is definatly something to lament.

That's it, Still thinking! We had some of those. I also still have that 45 of the Beatles. I also remember how it was interesting that the other side of the 45 was sometimes better than the well known marketed side!
I remember getting a portable 8 track player and thought it was the best thing ever. I would bring it into my very uncomfortable car ( no airconditioning , just the little floor air vents) and drive " to town".

Do you remember the little plastic inserts for the 45s so they would fit on a turntable without a stacking adapter?
The 78s had the small hole like the 33 1/3.

Mum I visited a Holiness Church several times as a teen with a friend and her family. I was from the same general area as you said in your post. I remember it being very loud too. At first it was almost scary!

A very interesting point was made on Bible-Discussion.com.
The prodigal son was welcomed back no questions asked, immediatly, even before he got home. The other brother who was the "good" son was jealous and pious. He actually resembles the pharasiees, obeying all the rules and getting bent out of shape when the "lawless" one is treated more special than he is. What happens with this "good" son? The jealous, bent out of shape, following the rules to the letter one?

Why won't JWs have "civilized" debates with home owners?
by ilikecheese init seems kind of crazy to go to someone's house touting your religion as truth and then not even defend your own beliefs.
why do jws stop the chat if someone just tries to calmly reason/debate with them?
i'm not talking about crazy preachers who start slamming bibles and yelling about how they need jesus or something.

A watcher, I am genuinly interested in your perspective.
What lead you to come into this forum when the WT specifically says not to? I am curious. You say it strengthens your faith, I suppose to defend it right? I really hope you continue coming into this forum as your perspective is valuable to others here. I hope you feel the perspective of others here is valuable for you. There as so many different topics that are under differing opinions, and beliefs from the WT in here. Some are backed up with quotes with the WT literature itself. Just going into the WT cd you can see the claims many here have posted.
Please remain a poster here. I hope you get out of it what is best for you. That is the real goal of everyone here. For each person to do what is best for them.
