I agree, the constant thing has been the belief tha the leaders were appointed by God and that the only way to be a faithful member /follower of this God appointed leader(s) is to obey, period. Obey without questions, obey faithfully. With that, all sorts of lies and twistings are accepted. They are programmed to accept or else they perish forever. Without those two beliefs the WT would crumble under the heavy weight of all thier lies and hippocracy.

How did the 1919 GB know they were chosen ?
by Phizzy inthe present gb/fds claim a kind of apostolic succession going back to the now claimed first appearance of the fds in 1919.. i don't think anywhere is it made clear who made up the fds then, but let us go along with the fiction, (in reality we know only rutherford really ruled the roost) and assume there was a group of guys who were the fds, how did they know they were chosen as such ?.
there obviously is nothing in the wt writings of the time as all this is noo lite, so, if they did not know their heaven appointed role, why would they carry it out, except by accident?
and if so, how could they possibly produce "food at the proper time "?.

"Prove the truth to yourself" Why does the GB give this advice?
by Comatose inwas reflecting on the instructions that are given pretty regularly to make the truth your own, prove it to ourselves, and address any doubts we might have.
why would jws get this advice when the result of any honest search would lead one to exactly where most of us here are?
i can think of two answers.. first, it's somewhat like being on a tour at a public attraction.

They do this IMO to reinforce that they are not a cult in the minds of the R&F. They provide pointed instruction on where they are allowed to look and research, then use the phrase to make the truth your own. It is really just a way of saying study our material until you agree with it. It's pretty simple when you think about it. The number one goal of the GB is to push the number one rule, obey the GB, regardless of what you think, obey the GB.

How do you react when you happen upon the name jehovah
by jean-luc picard inwhenever i here that name, maybe in conversation with someone who doesnt know my past, i feel anger welling up instantly inside me.. if there were a jw in sight, i think i could give him a jolly good shaking.. just hearing that name does things to me.. jesus = love.
jehovah = hate, selfishness, divisiveness, and domineering manipulation.. so much for jdubs "honoring " his name.
he's sure got a bad reputation based on how they live their lives..

Currently, I become tense with anger. It is due to the nature of the WT and the impications it might have on my life.
Previously, I considered it just another Catholic monks interpretation of the YHWH. Interesting, but not a hardfast doctrinal rule of an overused keyword that demanded unquestioning obediance of some men in Brooklyn, as I now hear it.

anyway, the wt assumes the 24 elders in revelation are the 144,000, and the assumption is merely because both sit on thrones.

NE, I have been thirsting as well for more knowladge about the Bible and beginnings of Christianity like never before.
The originial books that made up the writings of the Bible contained more that there are now. Enoch, etc... They were there for quite some time and then removed. Some removed again by the prodestant reformation ( Such as Martin Luther, who interestingly also wanted to take Revelations and several others out as well. ) It's interesting how so many prodestants claim the Catholic Church added books when in fact they only made official out of what was already there. I belive they also did remove some writings as official but retained them as good historical information for understanding.
I was never much of a Bible reader, I would read a chaper or so but not for very long. Now I want to read it all, plus the other books written in the same very early time periodthat contain even more historical information.

I read up on them some time ago and found it interesting how many different variations and time tables they have. Some are bigger than others, some louder, and some more numerous. They are basically hatched to propegate and be food. When looking at them you can see many of them will have deformities. They survive by volume, so that some will succeed in reproducing. So this year is the 17 year batch? I remember the batch in 2011 was pretty bad for a while around here. They are facinatingly ugly little bugs. My ears would ring after being outide. Even inside, windows closed, and air conditioner on you could hear them.
