The constant JW lies prophesy that "Armageddon is only a few years away" prevented whole generations of JWs from making necessary old age preparations while they were able to do so. Yet those in control look forward to a comfortable retirement bethel, looked after by an army of willing slaves.

I grew up not fearing old age
by Sour Grapes inas a teenage jw, i grew up believing that i was not going to finish high school nor would i get old and have to die like my grandparents did.
well, i did finish high school, as did my children and my grandchildren and old age has not been kind to me.
i don't like to look at pictures from 40 years ago, from a time when i was healthy and i had the goal of "stay alive till 75.

can we earn our salvation by preaching?
by solomon inare you trying to earn salvation by your door-to-door ministry?no.
we engage regularly in our door-to-door ministry, but we dont believe that we earn our salvation by doing such work.
(ephesians 2:8) why not?.

It's not a free gift if you have to earn it, is it?

Wonder if the organisation will start using interactive ipad presentations in the door-to-door work. e.g. householder taps answers.

Maybe I should go to the meeting an run a hotspot that redirects all web traffic to jwfacts.com. I don't think I'd need to call the hotspot "go to jwfacts.com". The mere chance at using the internet (rather than listening to the Watchtower reading) should be enough incentive to connect.

A couple of real wild statements made at the meeting Sunday
by Sour Grapes infrom time to time there are things said by the brother giving the public talk or conducting the watchtower that just make my jaw drop.
here are two from sunday.
"we are 98 years into the last days"

My observation is certian brothers / elders (who like to look good) make up these comments to look more intelligent/informed when on stage.

As a teen the part that worried me the most was being resurected without genitals or a sex drive!

Many born-in Jehovah’s Witnesses are subjected to the teaching that they’ll never die. This usually starts from a very early age.
Even as an adult, years after getting out of the JWs I had issues coming to terms with my own mortality. In the back of my mind there was a constant thought that somehow I wouldn’t die, even though consciously I knew it would/will be a certainty at some point.
Did anyone else have trouble coming to terms with their own mortality?

Do most people become Jehovah's Witnesses out of fear they might be destroyed at Armageddon ?
by Finkelstein ina practical question concerning human psychology .
it very well be that it was the jws who were.
responsible for first approaching this posing question to people to incite their interest and concern.. i can confidently say it was for my 20 something year old mother back in the early 50's.. unfortunately people who did so, weren't completely discerning the probable commercial .

Paradise earth is the sugar to attract people.
Armageddon, shunning, and no outside contact is the JW version of hell-fire to keep you there.
Can you imagine if they went door-to-door teaching Armageddon and shunning.

Nearly everyone? Like what percentage?
I would be really surprised if usage was greater than 25% anywhere. Most of the folks in there are not really the latest adapters when it comes to technology.
My wife said 'nearly everyone', she even told me a couple in their 70s both had laptops. If I had to guess what my wife's 'nearly everyone' meant, it would be at least 33%.
