That is true, DLJ, but can you recall me posting any controversial posts on WOL?

Did I question the FDS on WOL?
Did I denounce the Society at all?
Did I encourage anyone on WOL to read "apostate" lierature?
Did I discourage anyone from the witnessing work?
Did I refer any WOL posters to this site?

If the answers to these questions are NO, then what bad influence could I possibly be by being a member of WOL? I didn't brag about being inactive, though I would tell people who asked me.

How many members know about jw.com? I didn't until late last year, and that was only by referral.

So why are the WOL admins spying on dbs on which "apostates" and Df'd ones post? Don't they listen to the FDS?

For that matter, DLJ do you normally associate with df'd and "apostate" persons in your home town? Do your parents know that you do (via this DB)? Do you mind if we contact your cong and ask your elders the same question? Hmmm?

Yep, Split Enz/Crowded House were pretty good. Most of their songs were about love, often broken relationships, yet their words were sweet and had a nostalgic feeling to them.

Was I the FDS ?

just a thought.... at my recent meeting with the elders they accused me of being of the 'evil slave class'.

i responded that there were not two classes as the scripture said "but if that slave..." ie.

it was still talking about the same person or class.. now, if they claim that i have become the evil slave then i must, at some point, have been the faithful and discreet slave.. but, i have never claimed to by such and i'm sure that if it was somehow bestowed upon me that i would realise it (although apparently, the governing body didn't realise it for many years, but that's a separate topic).. are they twisting scriptures to suit themselves?

sometimes that is the only way to describe how certain things can happen.

especially is this so when panic, stress or hormones kick in which often serves only dilutes whatever common sense is left remaining.. a couple of examples:.

WT cultural imperialism?

i've been thinking about americans.

specifically about whether the wt, being an american dominated religion, forces american attitudes and culture upon other nations.. now, don't get me wrong, i'm not anti-american.

living in canada i have a lot of contact with many americans.

As an American, I offer my sincere apologies to the world at large for the cult known as Jehovah's Witnesses which plays on the popularity of the "worldly" American Culture to push its own agenda.

As an Australian (ignore what it says on my profile!), thank you Grunt!

Aussies have a natural disrespect for "tall poppies" (well-known people in authority) and when those tall poppies happen to come from America, woe betide them! It has oft been commented on regarding the Americanism in the Society's publications and it does tend to rub some of us the wrong way.

When I used to go door-to-door, a common "conversation stopper" was the thought "...but your religion is an American religion". The reply we would give was that we printed the mags in Australia at our branch in Sydney. What we didn't tell them was that the publications were all type-set in America first. Or that the Aussie branch couldn't operate independently of the HQ in Brooklyn.

I find them interesting, and I'm not at all surprised by the attitudes displayed by these wannabe elders and elderettes. I was an active poster and moderator on Witnet until it closed, and I was an active WOL poster, until they spied on me and decided they didn't want inactive jws on their site - or at least ones with a brain! [8>]

Btw, there is a woman's forum WOL now. Wonder who finally spoke up against the boys?

Classical Music

last weekend i was enjoying a sarah mclachlan marathon, this weekend it was kenny wayne shepherd and any other blues/rock i could locate.. while indulging in the music that i love, i started thinking about the "gold old jw days", and i remembered listening to the rite of spring by stravinsky, as well as many other classical works when i was younger.. i was transported to a magical, mythical place, and i would frequently put together my own dance routines to accompany the music (since i wasn't allowed to go to dance class).

then came the "warnings" from brooklyn about the pagan themes surrounding many classical works.

the rite of spring was specifically mentioned as one that could turn the good jw into a foaming, demon-inhabited monster.. destroyers of dreams, creators of the mundane--how could i have allowed them to strip my life of all the beautiful things?

My favourite classic composers are Beethoven and Mozart. I love the intellectualism behind Beethoven's work, yet also I love the light-heartedness that Mozart displayed. They, as well as the many other classical composers, wrote music that truly touches the soul, and brings pleasure to millions, centuries after their deaths.

as soon as I read the words "Midnight Oil" the first few notes of "Beds Are Burning" (I think that's the title?) came into my head. Awesome Aussie band.
