Austria goes "German Only"

i must be a glutton for punnishment or something, but here i go again, broaching the subject of speaking english in america.. apparently a law was recently passed in austria that people must satisfactorily pass a basic german language skills test in a few months or they will be fined.

if they do not master basic german in 4 years, they can be kicked out of the country.

many people interviewed in the article mentioned that they are too poor to afford the classes.

My husband took our five year old to Baskin Robbins for ice cream the other night. This particular one is owned/operated by Asians. The woman couldn't understand his ice cream order. He was really disappointed that such a fun outing became frustrating because the owner of this store didn't speak the language of her customers. He said she was nice at least, the last Baskin Robbins he went to the people were rude. We should at least have a law that to own a business you must speak the language of your customers, but I do agree with you Adam.

what kind of stuff did you guys (male and female) do to pass the time.

i either to write computer programs, sleep talk to my wife or sleep in the car.

just when you think your immune to the pain from family members shunning you get a surprise.

my sister hasn't talked or communicated with us for nearly 2 years.

in november my mom bought her granddaughter ashley a beautiful doll.

Sorry to hear it Ven. I heard about the first try with the doll, can't believe she would do something like this. Have YOU ever tried to call and talk to her. Do you think it might help if you called and said "listen, mom and dad want to give Ashley a doll, can you just put your differences aside so they can give something to their granddaughter?" It's not an apostate doll or anything.

Now I'm mad too. Sorry she ruined your day Ven, but glad you had such a nice weekend. More fun to come at the big apostacampingfest in July!!

Hey rekless! I didn't yell at the baptists and it wasn't our No Parking sign, it was theirs! They made an agreement with the neighborhood not to park on our street. But then, since when are they good neighbors? We hate them. They are the worst neighbors we have ever had. OK, I'm done.

The scrambled eggs were good by the way. I eat mine with a healthy dollop of Pace picante. Had a good run too.

Do You Love Telemarketers???

ok, i'm getting worn out from these guys.

i always tell them to never call again and some do take me off the list.

it seems they are getting more agressive.

There is this neat little gadget you can get at places like Best Buy called the Telezapper (I think). You plug it in to your phone line and everytime a computer generated caller (telemarketer) calls, it sends a tone to their computer that deletes your number from their database. They never call again.

I bought one and used it for about a month. You have to get used to waiting for the tone to stop before you start talking, no big deal. Unfortunately, since we have a business line here with four different numbers, it didn't work for us. Three of the phone numbers we have are remotely forwarded to our main number by computer, so we were disconnecting our own customers! The gizmo works though. $50 well spent if you have a regular old phone line.

When a telemarketer calls now, I hang up on them when they ask me how I am. No customer asks me how I am before stating why they are calling. Sure sign of someone who wants to sell me something.
