  this is a continuation of the discussion which sprang from an unrelated topic.. so according to genesis, who told the first lie?

  god told eve that if she ate from the tree of knowledge she would die that very same day.

  in response to that statement the devil told her she would not die.. eve ate from the tree and did not die.

  He is a frightening being, when we recognize that his actions are who he is.

  Yes, the NT makes it clear too:

  Hebrews 10:31: It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

  Many people are drawn to this part of being submissive to a God who has a monstrous side and a loving side. My mother who was a victim of domestic violence by our father became a JW due to this frightening aspect of Jehovah - a God who exacts justice and revenge. Quick to smash and kill people in the book of Judges and then a merciful side in the Book of Ruth. She faced and endured my Dad's drunken wrath due to her devotion. We kids saw her literally praying and crying and then soothing herself to sleep while talking to her God.

  just a heads up that the english version with the changed cover is now up on jw.com.. i haven’t yet read it but if any you have the time i’m looking forward to people’s insights.. in the meantime i must find a red 🍷.

  Notice how it’s not a personal decision about whether or not the person will continue to associate, but the ‘decision’ is to not associate.

  But isn't that what Paul says: "keep this one marked and stop associating with him". There is no question of deciding whether to associate or not. Just that rather than enforced by elders, this will be an individual's personal decision to mark him, which he cannot enforce on anyone else.

  These aren’t reforms…

  Yes, these are just change of terminologies to match the terms mentioned in the Bible. The term disfellowship was never there in the Bible, and thus for outsiders shunning looked like a practice
  which was not Bible-based. Now in courts you can just quote the scripture and tell that this practice of removing wrongdoers is directly mentioned in the Bible.

  founded in 1879 by charles taze russell (1852-1916).

  jw’s publisher is the watchtower bible and tract society, and their publications include "the watchtower" and "awake!

  The only lengthy posts over here I ever enjoyed reading were of Leolia's. I even took notes while reading them and kept my Bible open as she skillfully went from one scripture to another analysing them with proper research and backed-up evidence.

  Thanks DOC, I know. I have 2 cousins who are disfellowshipped.

  I am simply asking if the WT asks parents to kick their minors out of the house when they are disfellowshipped.

  Again, minors. Not adult children.

  Are you serious... we all know that this is standard procedure, who are you trying to fool? Go and boil you buttocks,

  I won't drop to your level of language usage. Read my question again. I am talking about WT encouraging parents to ask their minor children to leave the house once they are disfellowshipped. Is that the standard procedure?

  But, I doubt he would agree that he fought in 3 wars to allow JW parents kick their questioning teenagers out the house on the street and shun them.

  Yes, it was a surprise to many JW's, who felt the song titled "Good News!" would be about the good news of the paradise earth, but its based on good news that the angels gave to the shepherds about the messiah being born. and its one song where the name Jehovah doesn't appear. Just a shortened version - Jah. These are the lyrics:

  How many different "rules" do Jehovah's Witnesses have to obey? Can you count them?

  all the big changes for jws since this last fall brought me back to this site, and got me and the wife talking.

  just how many things were we not allowed to do growing up as jehovah's witnesses?

  we were so used to all the rules, customs, and traditions, that we became used to them.. one site i found claims there are 141 unique rules!!

  92. Do suggestive and immodest dancing in a public place
  98. Wear revealing clothes
  95. Use of bad language (curse words) is discouraged

  Many decent people, apart from JW's don't do the above three.

  Just a list of a lot of repetitive stuff, for e.g.:

  Dining with friends can be most enjoyable, but to obtain bread or wine, you need money. Since money is the means by which material things are obtained, it “meets a response in all things.”

  Yes, a good meal may be enjoyable. But neither food nor drink can be obtained without money. In this world, money is a necessity. It is a valuable asset that must be managed wisely.

  Eating, along with pleasant conversation, can be most enjoyable. But bread cannot be obtained without money, and there is limited rejoicing from drinking wine when a person has very little for life’s necessities. In this present system, money is the means by which all material things can be obtained and, therefore, it “meets a response in all things.” The thought behind Solomon’s statement may be that through industriousness a man can get the money he needs for bread and wine, for the comforts that add to the enjoyment of life.

  Where is Tony?

  on february 22, 2023, anthony morris iii was officially removed from the governing body of jehovah's witnesses.

  a few months later it was revealed that the watchtower bought him a house in lumberton, north carolina.. however, and correct me if i am wrong, since leaving the gb nobody has reported seeing tony attending jw meetings or participating in field service.

  in fact nobody has reported seeing him anywhere, not even at a local liquor store.

  what about his sons and their wives? Has anybody heard what may have happened to them? Has there been any recent sightings of the Morris brothers?

  One of his sons, Paul is in the Service Committee, while the other, Jesse, is a member of the US Branch Committee.
