i was just reading on another thread--and came across the idea that the wt soc is dying.

oh--i wish--but lets be realistic--not very likely.. .

then the thought occurrs--if the wt soc did collapse--died--just became part of history----.

Smiddy in defense of wha happened? i almost got sucked into the Mormons soon after being DF. I guess i was stupid enough to have a look at the LDS.

Im glad i tossed a coin wether to go to an actual mormon service or go play rpg with some guys i had met. Thank goodness the coin flipped for playing games instead.

If the WTS hass a mass exodus it would be our Christian duty to help as many as we could. I get a headache just thinking of all the convincing we would need to do!!!

Circuit Leasing selling on JW.ORG ????

so i was poking around jw.org a lil recently...... noticed this advertisement was still present in the 'privileged' section (ie you gotta have login access).

this was posted on jw.org a little over a year ago (as shown in pic) but since it is still viewable......figured it is fair-game for jwn fodder.

thoughts?????.

In Australia you had to be privilidged to be in the inner group who would even get the opportunity to buy an ex co car.

One of my best friends growing up is a co but he only uses the fuel card from WTS and has a hot Audi of his own. He is self funded and takes nothing other than fuel.

I wonder why he hasnt questioned any of the "theocratic" arrangment and doctrine as he was way smarter than me??

Yes ive read Alastair Reynolds Rev Space , can you tell he's an astro phisician (cant spell!) .I started Chasm City but got sidetracked. I really should read it as its a signed copy when he came down under last year.

For real light sci fi i recommend Harry Harrisons "Stainless Steel Rat" series.

Me too smiddy i only recently discovered Edgar Burroughs and i really enjoyed his Mars series.

my resurrection of this thread was about JW being used in fiction.Im going to try using threads long since past but relevant to current topic rather than create a new thread. Kinda recycling....saving electrons!

THREAD REVIVAL ( after 7 years iv'e blown off the dust )

About a year ago i bought from a charity book sale a box of sci fi books and am working my way down into the box, i just got started on this book .

They Shall Have Stars - James Blish

They Shall Have Stars (1956) (also published under the title Year 2018!) describes the political and social conditions in the near future when several major technologies are developed which change society radically. These are 'anti-agathic' drugs, which defer or prevent aging, and the development of gravity manipulation, which leads to 'faster-than-light' spaceship drives. During this period the Western democratic government model becomes ever more intolerant, eventually resembling the Soviet model very closely. A principal protagonist of this book, Alaska's US Senator Bliss Wagoner, is eventually executed by an oppressive regime, but not before he has made the technologies which allow mankind to escape their home planet available to all. The book is notable for the detailed way in which it handles technology, providing a mathematical explanation of the principles behind the anti-gravity drive, and illustrations of chemical bonding for reactions in the Ice IV material which is used to build a fixed point 'bridge' on the surface of Jupiter during the drive testing. Politically, the book clearly expresses a strong opposition to McCarthyism, at its peak during the time of writing.

Interesting sci fi story set on earth in 2018 ( which seemed along way away back in the 50's ) . More interesting is a radical group of religious nutjobs called "The Witnesses" who have indoctrinated 1 in 8 adults in America. because of violence against them they have robots programmed to go to peoples homes preaching "Millions now living will never die!" .LOL or what! James Blish certainly overestimated the effectiveness of "the Witnesses" but he got the radical nutjobs part right!

Has anyone else come across JW in fiction of any genre?

How do you CHALLENGE yourself? Self-Improvement topic

this is an important topic for me.. ever since i was a kid i was interested in self-improvement.. it was the result of my grandfather, surely.. .

here is what my grandad (i called him, paw paw) would do to challenge me.. .

he knew kids always need money to buy "stuff" and go places and do things.

I make it a habit to do what i call "Self Improvement Wednesday" where my aim is to learn something new. Like you i had a really sharp Grandparent who was interested in educating me. She was a JW but in reflection she was a fader and more Church of England than JW i think.

She got me to learn all the train stations in Sydney when we would travel and got me to recite all the Kings and Queens of English History fromm 1000AD+.

Im learning to read Koine Greek and i really enjoy that. Just studying John chapter 1 in greek has opened my eyes to the WTS terrible and misleading Bible translative skills.

Ive started to learn the history of China and that is facinating. I saw the Terracotta Warriors at an exhibition back in the 80's and they planted a seed to know more.

I had always wanted to be a History teacher and my grandmother encouraged that with me BUT my parents were No do a trade like your brothers and be more usefull to the society. Thats the last thing the WTS wants is people teaching history as it would uncover the inconveinent truth.

You should try and learn something new everyday.
