Stephen, for a while, was a fairly regular poster here on JWD during those heady days when the WTS was being exposed for its 'big lie'.
It would be really great to 'hear' from him again.

Are the Creative days 7000 years long?
by Steve J inwhere does the idea that the creative days of the genesis account were 7,000 years long come from?.
genesis doesn't suggest that they were specific time periods, but shows that one "day" extended into others.
i feel that the clue is in the words; "and there was an evening and there was a morning, a first day.

G'day Steve J and welcome aboard!
You've started your posting here with a good question yet one which presupposes what is not written.
Let us address those suppositions first. Let me ask the question, why do you assume that each creative day was uniform in length? Where in the Genesis account does it state that?
I believe that even the WTS have come round to thinking that these "days" were periods of time of uncertain length. Yes, Fred Franz laid great emphasis on each day being 7,000 years but as has been commented by my fellow Australian they seem to be shying away from that in recent times. So, back to the periods of time. Why should they be equal in length? Just because we think it would be neat and tidy, or because we conjecture that since God is a "God of order" then it must be so, doesn't mean it was so, does it?
Indeed, many christian believers see no contradiction between Genesis account and evolution.
So, in summary, there is nothing to state ctegorically that each creative "day" was either uniform or 7,000 years in length.
Cheers, Ozzie

Is it Growth or Boredom?
by AK - Jeff inlately i have been perusing the forum, and finding that i have little interest in most topics.
jw doctrine is old hat, my basic bitterness over that whole thing is fading, the fluff is of little interest to me.
i am dismayed to see that the ugly heads of prophets have risen from the ranks to be frequently on the first page of active topics, and i hope that others are not falling for other 'false prophets' after having discovered jw's to be such.

G'day Jeff,
I think we've talked abourt this before!
It seems things go round in circles - but isn't life like that? Look at fashion. My goodness, now that we're 'mature' we can probably predict what the next fashion will be!
In politics too, what goes up must come down. As a lad, my father used to say to me, "Be careful what you do to people on the way up because you'll have to meet them on the way down!"
I think the board becomes a comfortable place to visit. Just drop by, say hi to a few then log off. then again, we may see something we can engage in and, voila! we're posting like before.
So long as people feel comfortable with JWD, that's good IMO.
And not forgetting, there's some really good friendships built over the years on JWD.
So, it's good.
Cheers, Ozzie

Is that such a major problem that the Society has to regularly express a warning here???
Good point. My feeling is that it's not such a big thing but the expression "get rich quick schemes" tells something of the authors - it's part of the lingo of the older generations, not something in the vocabulary of the younger ones. From this i deduce that it's another example of the GB/Writing Dept mindset, their view of the world from which they've been removed for so long and have little real understanding of.

Why does the WT society not open its own non blood hospitals?
by Gill inwhy does the watch tower society not build and operate its own hospitals for its people who refuse to have blood in their treatment programme?.
surely, if bloodless surgery and treatment is so superior and they could prove it with their own statistics and survival rates they could show that blood should not be used.. so, what are they afraid of?.

Downunder the Australia Branch has recommended this hospital in Western Australia for bloodless surgery: http://www.fhhs.health.wa.gov.au/services/default.aspx?SiteID=4
They have even supplied BOEs in Australia with hospital brochures for distribution to the R&F !
