VA shooting suspect was raised a JW! He mentions it on his Twitter account
by WingCommander inanyone in the usa following this morning's shooting "on-air" live tv will know what i'm talking about.
bryce williams (not real name, but on-air name) shot and killed 2 people on live television this morning in roanoke, va. he was wearing a go-pro camera, and uploaded his first-person video onto his social media accounts.
i've seen his twitter feed (before it was taken down), and not very far down he mentions being raised a jw.

Alas, JWs will point to this and say, "See there! A mental diseased apostate!" -

Thank you, cha ching!
I’m absolutely loath at self-promotion, but if any JW has stumbled on this thread and is considered doing this research, perhaps this can be a starting place for you. But in the end, do your own research!

What Qualifications does Geoffrey Jackson have as a Translator of the Bible ? In any Capacity ?
by smiddy ingeoffrey jackson left school at the age of 15 and began pioneering , he never attended a university ,never studied ancient greek ,hebrew or aramaic at any recognized teaching academy , he has no certificates or credentials / qualifications from any place of learning that is approved by a competent body of religious instruction .. and by his own words at the australian royal commission , under oath he stated that was his primary role as a translator of scripture into other languages .. a 15 year old drop out from school in australia is the chief/ prime translator of the bible for jehovah`s witnesses world wide in their many languages that they preach in .. it would be very interesting to see his report cards for those few years he did attend school .. is it just me , or does anybody else see that his qualifications don`t come up to scratch to be a translator of the old testament or the new testament scriptures , and be taken seriously as a translator of either , into any language.. if i am wrong anywhere in this post feel free to correct me .. smiddy.

by Israel Ricky Gonzales inin march of 2014, i was a very active jw, a ministerial servant, gave a public talk, was an attendant for the memorial, and one of 4 cleaning captains for an international convention of 40,000+ attendees.

an innocent comment from a co-worker about the candice conti court case rang a bell that could not be unrung.

His main qualification: loyalty to Watchtower. Being a company man. -

That curtain had been pulled back in the late 70's by Carl Olaf Johnson, of course. And really it had been decided by acedemics long before.
Unfortuntely, 2011 was the year I chose to look, rather than years before. AnnOMaly and others had been around this board many years before debating apologists such as "Scholar".

The salvation paradox
by OverlappingGeneralizations inanother thing that has bothered me-.
if the righteous and the unrighteous will be resurrected, and will have the same chance at paradise as the hard-core dubs, what was the point of being hard core?
i know the point used to be "well, armageddon is gonna happen this weekend, and you'll survive and they won't!

The Watchtower teaches that those not active JWs will die at the Big A, even if they've never heard the JW version of the "good news". However, if they die before the Big A, then they will be resurrected.
That would mean that mass murderers save more people than JWs do.

" See ourselfs as others see us"
by The Rebel inthe membership rule is simple, you join the organisation for life and undertake to serve for life.. my o.p is based on the poet robert burns who talked about the gift to " see ourselfs as others see us".
i think maybe the hardest thing for me to leave, the jehovers witness " organisation" was to accept how my family and friends will now "see" me.. so my questions are how difficult was it to leave:-.
a) knowing the reaction of friends and family?.

Undue worry about how others view us could keep a person enslaved. All we can be is true to our conscience and be the best person we can be. I take it as a given that JWs, all my family and former friends, will think toward me the whole spectrum from ‘spiritual weak’ to ‘apostate’. It sometimes hurts, but I cannot dwell on that. I know that they are enslaved by indoctrination and if they really knew me and didn’t have the blinders on, they would have a different opinion.
I can’t help but think of one of the Beatitudes, “Happy are you when people insult you and harass you and speak all kinds of bad and false things about you.”
As a JW, everything is gauged by appearances and how we are perceived by the JW community. It didn’t matter about your heart, not really, it mattered what kind of figure you put on a time slip, being seen at all the meetings, being seen obeying all the rules, written and unwritten (such as not having a beard).
Sometimes it might be useful to step out of the situation and play “What If?” What if it weren’t the JWs, but another group that we were apart of? For instance, do I care how Westboro Baptists view me? Would I care how the Moonies, Mormons, Amish, Hasidics, Scientologists, Branch Davidians, People’s Temple, Heaven’s Gate viewed me if I left that group? It’s allot easier imagining this, because we have no emotional attachment to those groups, and even JWs realize those groups are nuts (even though they can’t see themselves reflecting in those groups).
Likely from this objective What If, we realize that we would advise a former member of X group not to worry about how the people within that group viewed them, and that worry about how that group viewed the former member could be an impediment to their life and recovery. The last step is then to imagine we were never JWs, and objectively advise ourselves accordingly.

Thanks for the shout out.
Three years ago this month, I attended my last meeting. I think this October will make 4 years having started to do research and awaken.
This thread helped tremendously: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/topic/215282/wt-nov-1-2011-public-when-ancient-jerusalem-destroyed-part-2?size=10&page=1
I'm very thankful for AnnOMaly and others who dug into this and did the deep research.

What were you favorite book in the organization? I know what you're thinking...LOL!
by BashfulAshG inwhat were *your favorite *books in the organization?.
out of all of those books, i liked "mankind's search for god.
" however, it appears to me that this book is incredibly obscure and no one recalls studying it during the old book study format.

I liked the Revelation book, the Daniel book, and before that, the Your WIll Be Done book. Of course, I liked the Insight books as well.
