  organization obsesion

  why are you guys so obsessed with organizations?

  there has to be order in the world and organised people!

  How does one measure obsession? This is a forum, the main topic being the Watchtower organization, its doctrines, practices, history and how it has touched people’s lives.

  If one went to an online forum about horses or music that would be the main topic. That topic would not likely dominate a person’s life as they’d have a life outside. On a forum dedicated to a certain topic, we only see a small slice of people’s lives.

  Back to the topic, I believe being organized is good, but it is a matter of degree. By default, organizations are not always a bad thing. Again, it is a matter of to what extreme.

  For instance, government is not a bad thing and better than chaos. When people work together, they can accomplish more than on their own for the common good. However, a totalitarian dictatorship, without checks and balances, is the other extreme. The question is good vs harmful.

  As pertinent to the Watchtower organization, many on this forum feel it is a harmful organization and is on the extreme end of the organization spectrum. People are concerned because they’ve friends and loved ones inside that could be and are being harmed in one way or another. People also cannot just walk away like they can in other organizations, not without losing the people they care about via shunning. Some people have experienced horrific things at the hands of the organizational machinery.

  Also many have deeply examined what was the center of their life, the Watchtower organization, and have thoroughly realized it is not “the Truth”. Perhaps because of examining the history and older publications or examining the foundational teachings (607, 1914, 1919, Faithful Slave, door-to-door, great crowd). That is deeply unsettling as many have spent a good part of their lives and life choices to something that turned out be false. Now they are being shunned (or in danger of being shunned if they let it slip) by all the people they love over something that is a lie.

  Other people who have left controlling groups, like Scientology, the Moonies, or the Mormons have similar experiences.

  I can't take it anymore!

  my dad was recently made an elder about maybe 6 months ago, and now he is never around he's always at work or doing some kind of jw crap.

  now he conducts the watchtower study and is even doing the special talk tommorow.

  he's become an even more strict controlling jerk than he was before, and i'm never allowed to go out and do anything non jw related because he doesn't have the time.

  Growing up, this explains my father's behavior. It can make people callous to other people's feelings, especially when they sit in on judicial committees and ruin people's lives.

  This organization is facing a growing elder shortage, or just a shortage of "qualified" men as defined by stringent Watchtower standards. Anyone in an appointed position, whether elder or ministerial servant, have a heavy workload and are very overworked because of this shortage.

  As time goes on, this shortage can only increase. Either the Watchtower will have to loosen its standards for qualifications (and include women in some of the work such as accounts, microphones, ect), or in coming decades, it will reach a crisis point.

  JW marriages: “They” looked good on paper.

  i applaud anyone, male or female, who overcomes shallowness and looks at a person’s deeper qualities, especially in regard dating and marriage.

  the movie and fashion industry does much to institute shallowness to the point that, in my opinion, it promotes outright discrimination and judgmentalism even as they give lip service to tolerance..

  on the other hand, among jehovah’s witnesses, there seem to be a preponderance of incompatible marriages.

  This was back in 2014 during the US zone visit. Any active JW in the US would have heard this.

  "You know a man that's not serving there should be a real good reason why they're not serving as a Ministerial Servant. inaudible Sister you know how elders get put in awkward positions Uh what's the story with this brother I'm interested in marrying him. But they had already gone too far along. Now they tried to tell her they said well think about it he's 23 years old he's not a Ministerial Servant. Well she married him. She paid for that wrong decision. 23 years old and you're not serving as a Ministerial Servant?"

  To me, this is bad news. The organization loves to play the Persecution Card. And it puts the lowly rank and file members who are suffering the most in a bind. Rather than jail time, the government should fine the Branch office.

  Last Night I was surrounded by Jehovah's Witnesses . . .

  last night was the "body viewing" at the funeral home for the jw whose friendship and influence resulted in my getting baptised in 1963. we weren't just friends.

  we had a david & jonathan bromance :) no seriously, we loved each other dearly.. it's only in the last 2 years he shunned me.

  before that, he would sneak behind the curtain of stealth, so to speak, and we'd sit for hours each and every week chatting, reminiscing and sometimes arguing about the truth about the "truth.".

  I think that JWs as individuals are naturally more yielding and about the shunning rules during these circumstances and their authentic non-cult self can more easily surface. And of course, they are hoping that by being nice, they will win you back, but might be sincere in doing so. After all, in their mind, your everlasting future is at stake.

  Jehovah's Witnesses - People of Integrity

  when i think of integrity, a lot of positive connotations come to mind.

  i think of individuals grounded in principles, who do not operate on opinions that change based on the breeze of political or social change.

  a life that is directed by a code of morality, not on capricious emotions.

  Yes, almost sounds like a Nazi!

  I think I'm more comfortable with people with are open to change, are flexible, and are guided by emotions such as love, mercy, and empathy.

  My time in the JWs has soured me on the I word.
