Donny: I informed on myself and my wife for a similar reason. It’s crazy looking back that I put my wife and myself through that. It is interesting the chapter of Crisis of Conscience that tackled that subject.

What's the craziest thing someone INFORMED on you about?
by Londo111 inthe culture of jws as encouraged by the watchtower is one of informing on one another, reporting to either the elders or ones designated head.
whats the wackiest thing that someone reported on you?
im not talking about a black-and-white watchtower rule that would land you in a judicial committee, but some judgmental nonsense that someone thought they should turn you in about?.

Obviously, if he had the part of Darth Vader, nobody could take it seriously. :) -

Before the prequels disgraced cinemas everywhere, they were promoting Star Wars, showing the original trilogy in movie theaters with new special effects.
Sam Herd was then the DO and was “serving” our congregation, we were the host congregation I think, and he brought up Star Wars. He said he couldn’t recommend the movie because it “promoted war”, but then went on to talk about the voice of Darth Vader, James Earl Jones. I forgot what his point was.
My mother went up to him after the meeting and asked him if he wanted to go see Star Wars with her. LOL.

Morpheus,
Was this the Star Wars prequels? If I can find out what congregation you are in, I might have to inform on you about the matter myself since you subjected your son to such a monstrosity of a movie! :)

The culture of JWs as encouraged by the Watchtower is one of informing on one another, reporting to either the elders or one’s “designated head”.

I remember how I had the CD called Switched on Bach. It is Bach’s music played on an early Moog synthesizer. Can you think of anything more “clean and wholesome”? I let a couple (an elder and his pioneer wife) in my congregation borrow it. Unfortunately, I mentioned the musician playing the Moog, Wendy Carlos, used to be Walter Carlos. They decided to report this matter of concern to my parents.
Another time, I went on a date, chaperoned by my friend and my date’s friend. I was 29, living on my own. This was playing by JW rules 100%. An elder and his wife saw us and still decided to report the matter to my parents.

Wow, where to begin? The whole thing was strange looking back! And sometimes I was the cause of the strangeness!
At the door, I was trying to present the magazine about the Bible and science and what I meant to say to the householder was, "Did you know the Bible says the earth is round and has no support?" Instead what I said was, "Did you know the Bible is round and has no support?" The householder just nodded away. Clearly he had tuned me out.
Another time I was joking with a younger JW who was out with me. I turned to a random spot in the Bible, it ended up being a verse about not cutting down a tree or something. I said, "What if we used this verse in our presentation?" To my chagrin, he began his presentation at the next house and asked the householder if he could read him a scripture...then he proceeded to read exactly that random verse.

What is the most bizarre counsel you received as a JW, from a JW?
by Funchback inthere were many addressed to me.
for example, i once had a sister tell me i was gambling because i liked playing skill crane (the machine where you have to try to pick up prizes like stuffed animals) at the arcade.
i then fired back a her: "you saw the r-rated movie 'backdraft.

It's funny looking back at the gnat-straining!
A myriad of things...I'll just grab two off the top of my head:
· · Mentioning the cereal “Lucky Charms”
· When extending myself to go in midweek service after working the midnight shift, an older pioneer sister asked me about my new job and what I did, I told her I was “Associate Operator”. She proceeded to counsel me how the world likes to give fancy titles and I should essentially quit my job and pioneer.
