Who exactly is an apostate?
by SonoftheTrinity inif you are a non-believing relative or spouse who is hostile to their doctrine are you an apostate?
if you studied with them and rang the logical fallacy buzzer for chits and giggles to see how they would react does this make you an apostate?.
if you are a born in who never got baptised does this make you an apostate?.

If a person was never technically a JW, then they would earn the label “opposer”. Some JWs can’t make a real distinction between the two. Either category could produce an unfortunate flight-or-fight response. -

then his servants said to him: look!

About Psalm 37:29, the word in Hebrew is olam, which means basically 'time indefinite'. And really, instead of "Earth" as in the planet, the Psalmist likely had in mind "land".
It is not really prooftext for individuals living eternally in a paradise earth, but that righteous Jews as a class would live in the Promised Land for time indefinite.

I've had dreams where I've sat down with members of the Governing Body. Nothing much resulted from it, which is likely what would occur in the waking world. -

I tried to awaken my best friend. I didn't even get anywhere close. He blew up and that was that. It just created a world of pain that has taken a long time to heal. -

Flogging the Vat 4956 horse
by MightierThanTheSword ini'm just curious about something & wonder if the experts could help.. basically i am documenting all of the main lines of evidence for the jws being the one & then investigating each claim systematically.. i have now reached the dreaded november 1st, 2011 watchtower & am sitting in front of a copy of cartes du ciel and a babylonian calendar converter i found at http://www.staff.science.uu.nl/~gent0113/babylon/babycal_converter.htm.
i realise these claims have been challenged and documented in depth elsewhere, but i'm keen to do my own research rather than copy & paste.
my question is regarding date conversion - when inputting the gregorian dates as given at the bottom of the tablet's translation i found at http://www.caeno.org/pdf/f019_translation.pdf then the lunar positions all seemed pretty close (visually, i wasn't dealing with exact degrees here).

I don’t post as much since I’m still getting used to the new forum layout—besides I’ve no more need to keep this archaic research in my head anymore. I can put my mind toward more fruitful things. If Ann happens to see this, I’m sure she can give a good dissertation to many of the points previously mentioned in this thread.
I’ve noticed the strategy of the Watchtower, as well as apologists, is to muddy the waters and create doubt. However, merely muddying the waters does not ‘prove’ 607 BC. And when one tests many of their claims, they evaporate under closer inspection. No amount of evidence will sway someone whose heart is desperately clinging to a pet theology. The best that can be done is to present the evidence to those who have ears to hear it.
VAT 4956 records an observation for the summer equinox, which any astronomy software can help calculate. To find out with Year 37 began, simply count back from the summer equinox. It’s that simple. This rules out the explanation in the November 2011 Watchtower article that the year began in May.
It is not just VAT 4956. It is not just the many other astronomical tablets. It is not just the thousands of economic tablets. It is not just the Egibi banking records. It is not just the Addagoppe Stele. It is not just the Hillah Stele. It is not just the Bible itself. And any other piece of evidence that I’m leaving out. It is ALL these combined. They all align…all the puzzle pieces fit harmoniously to confirm the Neo-Babylonian chronology.

Had I too converted to another religion as a youth, my parents would have kicked me out of the house. Of this, I am 100% certain.
Through undue influence, the Watchtower organization sowed the seeds that caused the young man’s parents to take such inhumane measures. When he was kicked out, he became a vulnerable target. It was easy for him to fall into another extremist group. -

Matthew 1:17 & 42 Generations
by campaign of hate inif we are to look at matthew 1:17, looks like there were 42 generations from abraham to jesus.. if we take 1948 bce (abraham's birth) and we take it to jesus baptisim (29 ce) we get to 1,977 years.. so lets divide 1977 years by 42 (the amount of generations), we get to around 47 years for one generation.. 1 generation = 47 years.. 1 generation + an overlapping generation (1 generation more) = 94 years.. this is all in the first chapter of the new testament..... comments welcome.....
