To add to the question; what of persons going out of their way to fulfill Biblical prophecy? We are told that the Old Testament contains prophecy of a coming Messiah. Christians argue that the Jesus of the New Testament is the person who fulfilled the prophecy. Practicing Jews would argue otherwise, saying that Jesus did not fulfill all of the required prophesies to be the Messiah.

Prophesy from a JW (and others perspective). What purpose is there in trying to interpretate some of the stuff that you don't understand??
by RubaDub inthis is not a jw-bashing thing, but it always seemed odd to me that the "excuse" when things go wrong is that "we have to wait and see how the prophesy is fulfilled" or some other wording.. my question has always been, then what is the purpose of the prophesy if you don't understand it until after the fact?
isn't that like having a weather forecast but being told that we don't really know what the weather will be until the next day?.
i'm sure some of the intelligent people here can guide me but in all honesty, i never understood that..

How would one simulate a long held Convention tradition - Walking the corridors during the sessions? Do sisters still have to simulate standing in line for 45 minutes to use the restroom? Best life ever!

Newest Anti-Apostate Tactics
by Anna Marina indon't quote any scriptures during the watchtower study that are not in the paragraph.. don't quote the governing body or anything from the broadcast ever.
it might be true but it is not true truth if it is coming out of your mouth if you have been critical of the governing body.
especially so if your criticism is valid and you have dared to support you view with scriptures, most especially the words of jesus christ.. anyone know of other new tactics?.

Would you mind posting a quote from that Watchtower in this thread?
This sounds like "Say nothing - Listen and obey!"

Did you enjoy some of these back then?
by Mandrake ini was bored to death this sunday, and suddenly i remembered that it could be worse if having to attend the public meeting on a sunday, even worse, not being assigned to the sound department, accomodating, being the mic guy, or reading the wt at the platform... then i realized that i hated just "attending" and sitting at meetings, those "privileges" were the only thing i enjoyed and made my last months inside bearable.... did you enjoy these assignments?

That definitely described me. The longer the session the more I wanted something to occupy my time. I often got assigned to help with the Accounts Department at Assemblies and Convention. I don't know how I could have sat through 8 hours of talks that I had heard over and over for decades.

The Watchtower—Study Edition | August 2020
by RULES & REGULATIONS inthe watchtower—study edition | august 2020 .
study article 33. the resurrection reveals god’s love, wisdom, and patience.
8 for a number of reasons, we can assume that those greeting resurrected individuals will be able to recognize their loved ones.

I have another question:
Will those resurrected in the New World be re-created imperfect like Lazarus? After all, Lazarus was brought back from the dead only to die again. So, Lazarus was resurrected into an imperfect body of sin. If that is the case, then would Jehovah be creating imperfection? If no, they would be re-created in perfection, then would they be able to speak to Jehovah directly without Jesus as an inter-mediator as Adam did because they are without sin?

In the USA, why so often is the vote for President just a vote against someone?
by RubaDub inin my lifetime, (i will include kennedy even though i was probably breast-feeding at the time), but it seems that there have been relatively few presidents that we vote "for.
" my list would be kennedy, reagan, clinton and obama.
i'm not talking about their politics here but who generally got voted for, instead of simply voting against.. any thoughts?.

To answer only the question asked of Rub-a-Dub, I believe it has to do with the national parties. The national parties have become the true power in the U.S. If a politician wants to get elected he or she must worship at the feet of the party leaders and by party leaders I do not refer to a single elected official.
Locally where I live if a person wants to get elected to office he or she must kiss the ring of the party leaders. If the party leaders believe a candidate will be a faithful and obedient puppet for the party, that candidate will receive the endorsement of every club, elected official, as well as receive generous campaign fund contributions. At any time an elected official poses a perceived threat to a party leader, the party will run 2 strong candidates against them in the primary.
In ancient times the religious elite pulled the strings of kings and emperors. Political parties have replaced religions in the U.S. I can't think of a better example of this than the 2016 DNC National Convention in which the DNC rejected the party members' decision and went with Hillary over Sanders.

When did WT lose the spirit?
by Smiles inat what time would you say that the watch tower schema lost the spirit?.
like the ancient nation of israel which struggled maintaining divine blessing due to a long series of grave errors that eventually culminated in definitive loss... how and when did watch tower lose the spirit?.
can we pinpoint a time or event?.

I think a better way of posing the question would be "When did the Watchtower lose it." "It" being the beginning of of the end for the Watchtower. I know when I saw it. Things started unraveling when the powers that be (Governing Body) started taking any joy out of being a Witness.
It started with little things. Conventions shortened. Food service stopped at Assemblies and Conventions. Circuit Assemblies went from two 2 day assemblies to one 2 day and one 1 day.
The next bit of joy that was removed were large gatherings. As a kid I loved the congregation picnics. The whole congregation would show up to a park and have a huge potluck cookout. Sometimes we would do bonfires on a beach. People would bring instruments and play music together.
I realize a lot of what I wrote was through the eyes of my child self. It just seems like there were good times. Then the Governing Body killed any joy that was left.

My father predicted the end of conventions some 30 years ago. Of course he also thought Armageddon would be here shortly thereafter. He's batting .500.
