billboard raising awareness of the dangers of the jehovah's witness cult.. short summary.
millions of people's lives are being adversely affected every day by jehovah's witnesses' (also known as jw.org) harmful teachings of shunning former members, refusal of certain kinds of medical treatment, social isolation, and harboring of child molesters.
the goal of this campaign is to sponsor a billboard that will be targeted to current members traveling to the belton, tx conventions july 31st - aug 9th 2015. these conventions attract thousands of current members and hundreds of prospective members.

from exjw reddit:.
broadcasting a message to doubting jws on their way to the convention about watchtower pedophilia coverups: $3,272.
saving one child from abuse: priceless.
i not sure how popular it is in other parts of the world but in my part of the world, it is not popular at all.
if you had to climb a ladder to get to it you would have to climb over steak, ham, fish, chicken, tuna, bologna, and a few others meats before you get to spam..
i have not seen a spam commercial since the 90s.
SIMON, THIS POST IS SPAM! GET OUT THE BAN HAMMER!
In all seriousness, I like Spam sandwiches and Spam & Egg tacos. Those are my favorite ways to eat spam.
as someone brought up as a jw and been an elder and been disfellowshipped (twice!!!
) i find it difficult to understand why ex jws have to attack the religion, yes religion, not cult or sect.
i am no longer disfellowshipped just do not want to practice anymore.
it just seems to me religion in general primarily makes truly bad people worse, not genuinly good people better; and in many cases has even made good people do bad things in the name of their religion.
just curious, a personal poll if you will.
what are you guys' current views on religion as a whole?
How do I feel about it? It's completely ridiculous and gobledeegook.
How do I feel about others who are religious? As long as it doesn't tread on my rights and freedoms, believe all you want.
1st john 4:18 .
18 there is no fear in love,+ but perfect love casts* fear out, because fear restrains us.
indeed, the one who is fearful has not been made perfect in love.+.
That statement that we have all heard in talks time and again is the ultimate JW-oxymoron.
Interestingly, and correct me if I'm wrong, no where in the scriptures does it specify that the type of "fear of God" is not a morbid fear. It's always just stated as, "Fear Jehovah your God," "Fear God"...etc.
recent events and book reads (one suggested by cofty i believe- thank you) have lead me to the only logical and acceptable conclusion:.
there is no god.. simple logical reasoning: matter can neither me created or destroyed.
so the amount of mass in the universe is constant.

Has anyone here signed up or done a video?
I would love to. It's too soon into my fade to come out completely this year.
i wonder if the religious freedom laws would allow active jws to discriminate against former jws?
could a business owner decide not to serve or sell to someone they consider "apostate" according to their beliefs?
if so it could take shunning to a whole new level in some states.

It's the Fear of Jehovah as motivation that stands out to me.
"It's not a morbid fear, it's a fear of displeasing him!"
Yeah, but if we displease him, don't we get mortal consequences? How is that not a morbid fear?
Religion is so ridiculous.
i know i'm angry.
i was curious if others are too.
i feel completely justified in my anger as well.
I will try this, if it'll help me not be so pissed then thats good. I don't like having such a short fuse when it used to be much much longer.
It's called "Mindfulness Meditation." Google it to see how to do it. It's not easy at first, because our minds are naturally busy and noisy. But it helps calm the emotions and give some clarity. Buddhists are some who practice it, but it's not at all based on any weird supernatural or outlandish beliefs and you don't have to be a buddhist to practice it or benefit from it.
