JW's are refrigerator magnets.......

wt has deified the a/c outlet as "god".

the cord carrying power from the outlet to the refrigerator is the "gb" .

the inner workings that make the freezer and cooler, well...."cold" are the legal dept, writing dept, and to save ink, the wt "bureaucracy" that stores and dispenses "food at the proper time".... and the body of the refridgerator which insulates and embodies all the contents of said refigerator is the "organization".... loyal jw's simply need to "stick" themselves somewhere on the refrigerator, or "organization" wherever there is room, and salvation is assured.. so its a large refrigerator, because some 7 million have affixed themselves to the "organization" or "cooler of salvation"........ but as you look on the floor, several have fallen off, and more have been peeled off by wt df / shunning policy.. so watch your step, someone may get trampled!.

I think I've planted a seed!

i could be wrong, but i can't help but be a bit optimistic.last night my parents and i had our "family worship night".

i hate it, and i believe my mother does too.

my dad only does it because he's an elder but last night even he was acting like he didnt want to do it.

This would be a great time to explain cognitive dissonance to them so that they do not allow themselves to get lulled back into sleep and forget about what they are learning.

Maybe if you had a way of showing them that people sometimes rely on Cognitive dissonance to make them FEEL better and forget about the evidence that piqued their interst and also you could talk about confirmnation bias to show them how when something like evidence rubs a person raw, so to speak, a person will look for evidence that backs up their previous belief instead of doing unbiased research.

Critical thinking skills would be the third thing to bring out about now.

both does a great job of defending me and making the elders look foolish!.

thank you raypublisher/jj and jwstruggle for the awesome job you did on it.. follow up story was not recorded but we will post it here hopefully over the weekend.. enjoy, it's pretty hilarious how they try to control us and come after me on a work of fiction!.

"Prove the truth to yourself" Why does the GB give this advice?

was reflecting on the instructions that are given pretty regularly to make the truth your own, prove it to ourselves, and address any doubts we might have.

why would jws get this advice when the result of any honest search would lead one to exactly where most of us here are?

i can think of two answers.. first, it's somewhat like being on a tour at a public attraction.

The Dubs will think "If they did not have the truth then why would they ask us to verfy it? And since they are asking us to verify it, they must infact have the truth. And since they have the truth, I do not need to actually verify it, why waste the time, since they have the truth"

We did not run when the JWs asked us "Tell me if this rag smells like chloroform"

Trying to handle my JW mom

my mom is a recent widow.

she, being a jw does not have means to support herself and does not seek higher education ( because that would take from her studies ).

so, she is living ( sponging off of ) me.

I would surely inocualte your children on the side about the Cult status of your children explaining how Cults use fear etc to control their members. Show them some books or websites that mention that the JWs are a cult group and how they use fear, demons etc .

Then explain how your mother is under thought control from this group. Hopefully if you can explain it to the children then each time that she tries to share some JW scare tactics they can use that occasion to reflect back on the things they you have taught them about the JWs and mond control. There is no way that your Mother will stop sharing the things she beleives about Jehovah to her grandchildren as it is HARD WIRED into her brain. She just will do it when your not there.

If this does not work, by a Ouija board and play some creepy sounds throughout the house until she gets too scared to stay.

What ever happens, you need to break this cycle of belief from getting put into your childrens minds at all cost.

" In 1969 there was one baptism for every 1,983 hours of preaching. During the 1980s it had risen to 3,000 hours. From 1990 to 2005 the number of hours preaching required per baptism increased from 3000 to 5000, an increase of 60%.

More significant is the number of hours required for an additional publisher. Due to the large increase in Witnesses leaving the religion, the number of hours preaching required per additional publisher has doubled from 4,000 in the early 1990's to over 8,000 since 2000. The difference from 1991 and 2005 from 4,000 to 16,000 is 400%."

The generation change on 2010 was a biggie for me as well. I only heard about it at a family gathering and the others were discussing it and I was like "Excuse me, can you explain what your talking about?" as I had an usual job at the time and missed the Watchtower and Assembly part where these would have been discussed.

I kinda blew a gassket right then and there saying things like "you have got to be kidding me, really?!!" I had a few chuckles like this is ludicrus (sp?) when I caught myself and stopped as the others there did not find it so amusing, they were looking at me like I was crazy for not believing it. (invasion of the body snatchers kinda feeling) Internally I was thinking " How do any of you REALLY believe this hogwash!!! you have got to be kidding me, this is so obvious that they are making these things up as they go along"

So I ask my wife later why did she not fill me in on this new light and she said that she knew how I always reacted to new light from the WTBTS and did not want to rock my boat as it were.

I do remember having a reaction back around 1995 to the generation change but cannot truly remember what the teaching was prior to that and also what exactly changed about it in that year.
