Juan Gabriel died.
by ILoveTTATT2 infor the world, michael jackson's death was the death of an insanely well known person.. in latin america, juan gabriel was like our michael jackson, he was that well known.. generations of people all over latin america knew his songs.
you heard his songs when you broke up with someone and went to the bar, you heard his songs in karaoke, you heard his songs every saturday when your grandma played music loudly and she only had the one cassette and it was his.... i hadn't cried for the death of an artist before, but today i did.. there are sooo many memories, both good and bad, in mine and hundreds of millions of people, in which he was a part.. mexico and all of latin america is in pain right now.. may he rest in peace..

Convention(al) Wisdom
by darkspilver inconventions satisfy a basic human urge: the longing for belonging.. at conventions, people who share similar interests - even obsessions - come together to bond and to be themselves.. the outside world doesn't matter.
in fact, for the weekend duration of most conventions, the outside world doesn't even exist.. the conventioneers have each other and that's all they need.. http://conventionalwisdom.com.
the mermaid convention.

In the old days they used to have a 'love feast' at the conventions. I'm sure it wasn't as much fun as it sounds.

Visual Methodologies and Watchtower Illustrations
by slimboyfat ini have been reading a fascinating book about various strategies for studying the meaning of images: visual methodologies by gillian rose.
various approaches covered include compositional analysis, content analysis, psychoanalysis, semiology and discourse analysis.
it struck me how ripe watchtower imagery would be to such scrutiny, and how subtle trends in ideological emphases may be identified through the visual iconography that may be less apparent in the overt expositions of watcthower written texts.

I just located the book on the shelf. It was published in 2002, and mercifully I do not remember it at all. As I look at the photo I am reminded how foolish the doctrines were and are. My mother used to say that even with all the resurrected ones, everyone would still have an acre or so to live on, and she would say that was enough for her. But that would mean that the scene in this drawing, as well as many others they typically print, with no other houses or dwellings within sight, would simply not be. The whole belief has so many incongruities that it is silly.

I do not remember the picture, or the book for that matter. Maybe it was removed due to copyright issues

i just wanted to focus on the end of the video, were he has this to say:.
the governing body loves to get together and discuss the bible.

If I were still in I could probably rationalize the organizational changes ( meetings, Warwick, finances), but the doctrinal changes not so easily. The generAtion teaching and the re-identity of the slave are a joke.

Remote Translation Offices (RTO) of Jehovah's Witnesses
by Brokeback Watchtower inwhat do you think about these things.
it seems like a monumental waste of time and money, a pipe dream of the governing body based on wishful thinking.
this corporation is going down the tubes with these asshole deluded genius's calling the financial investment shot.. buying chemical dump property around the world to build their financial empire headquarters on while facing massive child molestation lawsuits now and many more in the future means it looking kind of bleak for these messed idiots running things.. http://jw-branchoffices.blogspot.com/p/watchtower-remote-translation-offices.html.

I have a family member in Africa who has showed photos of an RTO there. It was just an ordinary house, three people sitting at tables working at computers, that's it. I understand why it would be better there, but a similar setup in Florida makes less sense. Maybe if the translators were not on the 'payroll', receiving a stipend or medical insurance, it would save the WT money.
