The Greek word is indeed 'drakon' and it appears about a dozen times in the NT, exclusively in Revelation. -

Aliens exist and YHWH (Jehovah) was one of them.
by Jehovah Was An Alien in"the constellation of the seven stars forming the pleiades appears to be the crowning centre around which the known system of the planets revolve even as our suns planet obey the sun and travel in their respective orbits.
it has been suggested, and with much weight, that one of the stars of that group is the dwelling place of jehovah and the place of the highest heavens; that is the place to which the inspired writer referred to when he said: "hear thou from thy dwelling place, even from heaven" (2 chronicles6:21) ; and that it is the place to which job referred when under inspiration he wrote: "canst thou blind the sweet influences of pleiades, or loose the bands of orion" – job 38:31"
the constellation of the pleiades is a small one compared with others which scientific instruments disclose to the wondering eyes of man.

There are indeed quite a few people who believe that the legends (and religions) about gods or sky people are really about alien visitors. I don't know who came up with the idea originally, but von Daniken in the '70s wrote a book which was really popular when I was growing up. Now there is a cable TV show about the subject about the beliefs. Basically they look for any old story or legend and find some way to apply it to fit their theory. -

Jehovah's Witnesses: A Clear Decline
by Hadriel init is rather clear that the internet is to put it mildly, wrecking the world of the watchtower bible & tract society.
if not for foreign language i doubt there would be much growth at all.. digital trends and analytics are very real.
i live this analytics world i assure you to some degree you can take it to the bank.

A Picture of the First Bethel
by Wild_Thing inhere is a picture of 124 columbia heights in brooklyn that russell purchased when he moved his operations to brooklyn.
it belonged to another preacher, henry ward beecher, before he died.
russell also bought his other properties that beecher had on hick street, which i guess would be the first assembly hall.

Thanks Pete, yes, Wikipedia shows that Harriet Beecher Stowe and Henry Ward Beecher were siblings, their father was Lyman Beecher, also a famous minister. -

Great photo.
Henry Ward Beecher was quite famous in his time, even more so was his daughter Harriet Beecher Stowe, author of Uncle Tom's Cabin.
I don't believe there was any ideological kinship between Beecher and Russell, though if I am wrong someone will comment on it.

Your feelings for the former travelling overseers
by Hecce induring our wt life we met a good number of friends involved in the circuit and district work.
i am sure that we share the same experience and that we remember fondly some that we caring, loving and generally interested in the brothers.
at the same time we might remember others that were arrogant, selfish, abusive and oppressive.

We had a DO and wife stay with us for a week back in the 70s. Actually I felt sorry for the wife, she was really lonely and unhappy. Unlike the CO, who returned to the same congregations and got to know people, the DOs never got to know anyone , as they kept moving between circuits. Really a lonely life back then
