American accents, Bette Midler, Clinton, Rick Fearon, Strathclyde, Morningside
by slimboyfat ini used to enjoy being able to distinguish different local accents, but for some reason i've got worse at it.
i was thinking about this today when i was listening to bette midler on the scottish radio.
i thought to myself i quite liked her accent and also that it reminded me of someone else.

New Field Service Format?
by jw07 init seems that hype is the only thing keeping jw.org alive and well these days (that and the money of suckers who continue to fall for it).. at meeting on monday, an elder announced "the faithful slave has seen it fit to change the format of our ministry in 2016, and more information will come".
i guess the desired reaction is to get jws preoccupied with what those changes could possibly be, and if it means that the end is nearer or some crap.. with that said, i've been suckered into wanting to know what these 'changes' will be.
does anyone know?

Maybe the elder said or meant to say 'changes to the ministry [school]' which is changing a lot in 2016 as we know already.
on another note, it is becoming common for halls to have 3 and 4 congregations meeting at different times, and a Monday meeting is not unusual.

Television and before that radio has done a lot to homogenize accents in the US. And education. I grew up around Chicago where the grammar is good. But now I have a southern accent too after living in the southern Midwest. -

I'm usually browsing this forum during the meeting. Is that risky? -

Here it is, a cartoon depicting a boring WT study. When I first saw it I thought the WT lesson was made up, but no, it is word for word from a WT lesson a few years back.
kudos to whoever took the time to make this and post it.

A rhetorical analysis of the Sept. KM Question Box
by Leolaia insome have pursued an independent group study of biblical hebrew and greek so as to analyze the accuracy of the new world translation.
they have also held conferences and produced publications to present their findings and to supplement what is provided at our christian meetings and through our literature.. throughout the earth, jehovah's people are receiving ample spiritual instruction and encouragement at congregation meetings, assemblies, and conventions, as well as through the publications of jehovah's organization.
rather, the claim is implicit.

If I had seen this KM back in '07 it would have made me mad.
It's a good thing I miss so many meetings, and don't read any literature.

Tanzania News Update
by mana11 ini wanted to share with you some feed back from this region.
since you could say tanzania and other regions within africa are the last hard to reach places on the earth.
it is where the www preaching work funds are directed, as being justified to get your donations.there are now no longer any foreigners at the branch within tanzania, they all were told to go.

I would agree with Steve that turning it over to local brothers is not 'abandoning' the work, but pulling out the funding from overseas is. The African branches are far from self- sufficient, as the per capita income is shockingly low. -

I am curious too, as my family friend is at a branch in Africa ( not Tanzania). There is a cutback there, but not nearly as extreme as the OP. -
