Use Of Electronic Tablets At Meetings

i do.. what does the soceity actually say about them?

(i know some the members of the gb use them) .

what do you think about using them at meetings?

Last month the Circuit overseer was in our area (midwest US) and after he left they made it clear that tablets were not to be used by any of the TMS speakers, or from the platform, unless it were a demonstration on the service meeting. The reason given was that since they are relatively expensive, some might feel pressured to buy one and feel bad if they didn't have one.

But that was before the new Bible and new App release, and I didn't hear the letter this week.

Admittedly, trying to find a Bible verse with the app is a little cumbersome compared to the usual way.

i have learned from a credible source that jws have recently gone to a morocco, where the work is under ban, and while living there have lived under assumed names.

this is (according to my source) under the direction of the branch (which branch i was not told).

i'm thinking, isn't that illegal?

What would the American embassy say about that? if this is true I am simply shocked.

using that, which and who to introduce clauses and when to use commas:.

the little boy who lives next door is a noisy, hell-raising brat.

"who lives next store" describes one little boy in particular, not the entire neighborhood of nice and respectful children; therefore, that clause is not set off by commas.

I am glad the new NWT has corrected the numerous who/that grammatical errors like at John 5:30 "the will of him that sent me".

Donating to charities discouraged by the WT

hi everyone,.

im trying to find articles from the wt and awake that show when the writers are discouraging charity work or giving.

from any books would be good also..

There is a general sentiment among Witnesses to NOT donate money or time to charities.

They would prefer any donations go to WT or the local congregation

And time be spent in the field service.

I give many hours each month to community and zero in FS.

It's great.

Foreign language field - the curious Watchtower cutback?

most of the recent watchtower cutbacks can be explained as money saving exercises: closing branches, paperback books, fewer pages in the magazines, sending bethelites home and so on.. but a few different posters have reported that the watchtower society are also cutting back on the foreign field ministry.

for many years foreign language congregations have been a major source of growth for the watchtower in many lands.

so why would they choose to scale it down?.

My daughter is in a foreign language congregation in a US New England state, and they seem to be going strong with no cutbacks, at least nothing I have heard about.

Since most JW's HATE giving talks and doing meeting parts, why does the Watchtower Society still require it?

i loathed giving talks and doing meeting parts.

i dreaded all assignments.

i was intelligent enough and always did a good job, but all my jw life (born in to mid-30's) i enjoyed giving talks about as much as a visit to the dentist.. i am sure that 90% of all jw's similarly dislike it.

I believe the TMS was introduced primarily to be able to substantiate the claim that JW were qualified to be ministers. In 1943 they were desperately trying to get the draft boards to accept that claim. Especially for Bethelites, as the TMS was started at first just for them. I first came to this conclusion reading the WAlsh case, where they spec ifically testified that the TMS was minister training.

Tuxedo site is about 5-6 miles away from Warwick. It has mostly a big residence building, and storage areas for building supplies

Mark Sanderson - Why Is the Newest GB Member Suddenly So Prominent?

i've noticed something that is very odd even by wt/gb standards.

why is mark sanderson suddenly so prominent in all things wt/jw?.

others have commented on the obvious narcissism of the gb pushing themselves to the fore recently, in particular after their huge doctrinal change at proclaiming themselves and only themselves as the faithful and discreet slave.. this is clearly true as evidenced at the agm, not only throughout the agm, but also in the video that was featured as part of that meeting.

I am with some of the comments that Sanderson is not particularly prominent, any more than the others. But I do think that we are looking at a conscious change. In years past most Witnesses would have had difficulty naming the GB members, let alone identify them by sight. They were seldom pictured in the literature at all, and you might only see their names a time or two a year, maybe in the Gilead graduation article. But now it is almost like they are deliberately creating a PR image for them. Hero worship of prominent people is common in the world-- just watch the news-- but the WT has studiously avoided it until now.

Giovanni DeCecca

1879-1965

When I visited Bethel in abt 1976, Sister DeCecca was still living and was one of the highlights to be able to meet. She was quite old and had little to say except simple greetings. Believe it or not, she had a Bethel job even at that age and was working in the Bethel laundry, though honestly she didn't seem to be doing anything.

Her husband Giovanni DeCecca was one of the 7 people sent with Rutherford to the Atlanta Pen in 1918. He was of very short stature, and was born in Italy. In 1918 he was not one of the directors of the Society, contrary to some of the published accounts, but I think he was a director in the later years.

I am surprised to see his name listed as buried at WT farms, at the same time I wonder where his wife is.
