The incredibly white NAACP leader
by Simon inthis is a bizarre story.. there is a woman who is the local leader of the naacp who is obviously trying to mislead people into believing she is black who is actually white.
very white.. she obviously gets a tan regularly but looks more orange.
yes, orange really is the new black!.

In some circles ( Native American for instance) the person can claim to be part of the identity if they are as little as 1/16 of that ethnicity. Maybe this lady is using similar reasoning. -

Did Jason B Dunn say the "New World Translation is the most accurate translation there is?" Why make a new Bible than?
by MagicMItchJensen inthe circuit overseer mentioned something about the nwt being the most accurate translation according to professor jason b dunn, i heard this nonsense before but never really dug deep in to this topic because non of us really had a choice as jws but to accept all their random musing of our uneducated leaders as factual.
1. if the new world translation was the picture perfect translation of all the bibles and we went door to door telling everyone we had the "most honest bible", why did they change it to a paraphrased version?
what success have you had getting jehovah's witnesses to address why they tinkered with the new world translation, it was suppose to be the best translation and now it's turned in to a very loose paraphrased version.

I have heard that his book uses a selected number of verses which are used as test cases for doctrinal bias. If that is so, could someone who has the book list what verses were used? And how they were selected? -

1 Kings 6:31, Insight from archeology, other translations and the good ole NWT
by kepler incall this a review of a recent article i noticed in the biblical archeological review, "the puzzling doorways of solomon's temple" by madeleine mumcuoglu and yosef garfinkel, bar july/august 2015, pp.
this is not something that i had been waiting with baited breath to find out about, but sometimes there is a serendipity effect when you are idly reading something over breakfast.. the authors, field archeologists working at the site khirbet qelyala in israel, based on evidence from their dig site, believe they have an explanation for a strange reference in 1 kings 6:31. essentially, according to many current translations,.
"the bible tells us that the doors of the inner shrine of solomon's temple had five mezuzot (singular mezuzah) [and] whatever they were the bible is not referring to the little parchment texts in a case on the doorposts of jewish houses that are called mezuzot.

It's good to see that there is someone besides me who gets BAR. Been a subscriber for years, always an interesting read.
The NWT seems to be the least clear of the ones given for the selected verse.
The original NWT OLd Testament was so literal at times as to be unreadable. The NWT of 2013 does include an explanatory footnote for that verse

0.36% of attendance is on the low side compared to recent years ( last years International was an exception) There have been similar threads a couple of years ago and the baptisms were running about 0.5% of attendance. Back in the '74-75 heyday it was about 2% of the attendance. -

The WT is usually self-insured, at least in the US, so there would be no insurance to make a claim. -

Gordon Lightfoot
by RAYZORBLADE inok, if you're a canuck, chances you know that gordon lightfoot is about right up there with ol' jehover!.
but if not, nevermind, but i have to admit, i have been a lifelong fan of: gordon lightfoot.. this evening, i took his 'greatest hits' and gave it a listen, and as expected, i was still enthralled with his lyrical genius, and playing abilities.. anyone a gordon lightfoot fan?.
just curious.. all your folks living along north america's "great lakes" keep in mind, next month is the 28th anniversary of the sinking of the "edmund fitzgerald".. that song, by gordon lightfoot is haunting from beginning to end (over 6 minutes).. i personally love: go-go girl in love, bitter green, canadian railway trilogy, sundown, race among the ruins, wreck of the edmund fitzgerald, and well i like just about every damn thing he ever did.. your contributions?

The Edmund Fitzgerald has a lot of words and is difficult to remember. Few singers would know all the words to be able to perform it on request. -

WT is shorting literature orders by congregation with a problem contributing enough for literature $3500 just for mags
by oppostate inat our meeting last night there was a talk about having run out of magazines for the last three months.
it's expected this will continue to happen.
the "branch" has not sent the requested number of magazines.

One comment about the number of magazine placements exceeding the congregation order.
I think they are allowed to count a placement if the send an electronic version to someone by request, so it is possible to have more placements counted, it's meaningless anyway.
the young elder in the OP needs to go back to grade school and Learn his times tables.

"do not go beyond the things written"
by stuckinarut2 inthanks to bu2b and splash who mentioned this quote in another thread!.
but i thought it deserved a thread all of its own, such is the impact of this:.
the very best example of going beyond the things written comes from a 2008 watchtower.

For them to call 'do not go beyond what is written' a Rule is in itself going beyond what is written since the Greek doesn't contain 'rule' or any Greek equivalent. The old NWT, while not alone in translating it that way, differs from a lot of the modern translations. I don't know if the revised NW says 'rule' but I expect it does. -

If you ever get a chance to talk to a JW from Africa, you'll hear a lot about demons. Maybe it's the background but it is very much a main topic.
