Why Rational People Buy Into Conspiracy Theories?
by adjusted knowledge inmy wife is taking a literature course at a local college.
this was her final topic of the semester: why rational people buy into conspiracy theories?i automatically thought of this site and of jws.
the jws i knew, were the kind of people that would believe in conspiracy theories, and i noticed a small following on this site.. the article that was referenced for this course was: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/05/26/magazine/why-rational-people-buy-into-conspiracy-theories.html?_r=0.

The biggest conspiracy story ever is the Adam and Eve story where we face good versus evil in epic proportions. I think more that a few people believe this. -

Are Jehovah’s Winesses “Fundamentalists” and “Fanatics”?
by EdenOne inrecently ive posted on fb a meme where a two pairs of hands held open a bible and the quram side by side.
then i wrote on it:.
(faith + fundamentalism) x (hate + propaganda) = legitimation of intolerance and violence.

No one can explain or justify their beliefs - the current spin on beliefs (starting with this generation) are unexplainable. But that does not matter. The cost of entrance to this social club is to leave your brain at the door. I think most welcome this requirement. To suggest that this is fanaticism is missing the point - their faith (if you call it that) is the exact opposite of fanaticism. These folks have simply given up. -

The Watchtower has turned into a social club. Most have no idea what they believe. But that does not matter. The meet several times a week and through these meetings are able to justify their confusing beliefs as well as gain a sense of belonging.

1914—The Turning Point in History - Really?
by berrygerry in1914the turning point in history.
30 from the human standpoint, the world troubles and global wars foretold in the bible were far from the thinking of the pre-1914 world.

They got lucky with 1914
If you read very early Wt literature you will find that they identified pretty much every year as the year. It wasn't luck related to 1914 - it was "spin."

No Kingdom Halls would definitely work!
by John Aquila inlast night we were invited to a get-together with quite a few heavies attendingelders and regular pioneers.
there was beer and later some music.
everyone got relaxed and let down their guard and starting talking all kinds of non-theocratic stuff that you only discuss after a few beers.

Which bible character do you hate the most?
by Bonsai inthe more i think about it, the more i feel an extreme dislike for the apostle paul.
he was on par with hitler in his treatment of the jews before he "saw the light".
he replaced jesus teachings of love and mercy with a more legalistic, pharisaical concept of devotion to god.. any evil person can come to believe in god and worship him if the scales were literally and miraculously removed from his eyes.

Lot is on the top of my list as someone who has total disregard for his family. I am disgusted by his actions towards his daughters. I never understood how people could be on a KH platform providing a justification for his action. Those people disgust me as much as Lot.
A close second is Solomon. I think he was an idiot with regards to not understanding how his personal excesses destroyed a nation. He has no concept of economic development and squandered an opportunity to build a strong economic kingdom.

Elder On Tablet During Prayer
by jw07 induring a prayer in the kh all our eyes are supposed to be closed, right?
i've never been one to fully my eyes during prayers.
i'll close them down, but just enough that i can still peep around at what's happening without being noticed.. there's something i've noticed a certain elder doing for the second time now.

Make your predictions!
by Coded Logic inthe more specific the better :) here are mine:.
i predict that within the next two to three years (2017-2018) we will start seeing negative numbers in growth.. i predict that within the next thirteen to fifteen years (2027-2030) the number of jws will be less than 4million.. and i predict that by the time the first person sets foot on mars there will already have been a major split in the organization with either one of the gb or a branch overseer starting a new religion..

I thought I saw a post that they will be able to count time for surfing the internet. They can always show increases - they just need to change what they are measuring.
