They all look alike now.
by AK - Jeff infunny the way our minds unwind and refocus after leaving a high control religion.. when i first left the jdubs i saw them more closely to what the entire world sees them i suppose, but not truly clearly at those early stages.
they still looked to me to be 'good people' but misguided.
as time went on, though the misguided feature remained, the 'good people' supposition faded.

Why I Left Jehovah's Witnesses--a 10-page essay by sd-7
by sd-7 inwhy i left jehovahs witnesses.
they can be painful to bear, but sometimes that is part of life in a setting with many people and their various personalities.. it was my examination of evidence that did lead me to leave jehovahs witnesses.
they, of course, had failed to bear proper witness to his name.

It never ceases to amaze me the difference from BOE to BOE. But I have been involved in a few different judicial committees where elders were asking me about fornication related wrongdoing. A couple of specific questions stuck with me.
You mentioned that elders asked you about non-JW participants in your situation. I had a similar experience.
In one committee we discussed a number of situations. They were very interested in those involving other JWs. The specifically said they didn't care about worldly participants.
In another, as a 14 year old, I was asked if I had climaxed with a girl. Climaxed is the exact word used. I told them that since the act could not have resulted in pregnancy, the question was irrelevant. The brother interested said that it spoke to the extent of the sin. I told him that it was none of his business.
Still reading.

Do YOU Believe That JWs Have A Huge Problem With Pedophiles?
by minimus ini don't think there are more pedophiles in the religion than there are in others.. i understand that one is too many.
but i think some believe that it's an epidemic within the organization.
i believe their 2 witness rule can help pedophiles secretly abuse kids.. but i don't think that this particular crime dominates those in the religion.. .

I wouldn't imagine that the rate of pedophilia among JWs is much higher than the general population [I think the incidence of general mental disease is higher in JWs so apply whatever factor necessary to accommodate a couple additional pervs].
When I was a kid, a friend confessed to me that her dad was sexually abusing her. I told my parents and they took me to a trusted elder to recite my story. THAT'S THE PROBLEM. They took me to AN ELDER?!?!? WTF? The mindset that all wrongdoing is reported to elders first and THEY decide whether to alert the authorities impedes justice.

Satanists have Longer Life Expectancy?
by shaii ini'm curious about which is the healthier choice: satanism or jehovahs witnesses?
it seems to me that you hear alot less about satanists having problems, than you do witnesses!

Of course... as a Satanist you have to deal with the animal sacrifice element. You could cut your finger whilst sacrificing a chicken and get a staph infection...

a JW trait that you have not been able to "shake loose" perhaps?--PSacramento
It's good to have differing opinions. Then you can compare your singular perspective against that of another.
We should be cautious about saying that one who disagrees is holding on to cultlike or JW thinking. Often, when looked at from another's perspective, the same claim could be made about you.

Believers do, reportedly have longer life spans than non-believers. If you pray, you live longer. I doubt it matters to whom you pray... but statistically...
At least that's what Sanjay Gupta says.

I remember a "sister" commenting in a... shit can't remember what they're called. BOOK STUDY! That the Holocaust was the fulfillment of Jesus' withering tree of the Jewish nation prophecy.
All the debates I had on the Trinity seem kinda pointless now.
Once... I told someone that at Jesus' baptism God spoke from heaven saying, "This is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased." -Matt 3:17
Turns out he said, "This is my beloved son: hear him." -Luke 9:35 ...umm... I think...

Modern Day Prophets
by Ding inend times speculation can be a harmless hobby for some, but it seems to me that all too often the problem with modern day prophets (those who announce end times dates) is the disturbing spiral it leads to:.
1. the prophet announces his dates and reasoning.. 2. he develops a following.. 3. most people scoff at or ignore the prophecy, which leads the prophet and his followers to feel persecuted.. 4. they become convinced that non-believers are agents or dupes of satan.. 5. they then convince themselves that they are the only ones god is pleased with because they are the only true believers.. 6. the followers come to see the prophet as god's sole spokesman and authority figure and give their lives to his control.. 7. the prophet makes demands on his followers' time and money as a test of loyalty.. 8. the followers recruit more and more people with their zeal and promise of "hidden knowledge" and special favor with god.. 9. the prophet alienates his followers from non-believing family and friends so they look down on anyone with different opinions, often considering them to be doomed because of their unbelief.. 10. the prophecy fails.. 11. outsiders laugh the prophet and his followers to scorn.. 12. in the best case scenario (rare), the prophet and his followers admit they were wrong and give up with a relatively small amount of harm being caused.. 13. in the worst case scenario (all too common), instead of coming back to reality, the prophet sets a new date, revises expectations, or claims invisible fulfillments, which his followers swallow wholesale.. 14. the prophet comes up with more and more bizarre teachings that the followers must accept as proof of loyalty and devotion.. 15. some people fall away, but those who remain become even more devoted, redouble their efforts, and suck even more people in, many of whom have no idea of the history of failure.. 16. any recruiting success is seen as a sign of god's blessing and favor, while any down periods and bad publicity are seen as evidence of persecution of the truth.. 17. more and more people and families get hurt.. 18. the whole vicious cycle keeps repeating..

There's a church near my house that had on its marquee, "Jesus Said, Follow Me"
I was like... Yeah. And Jim Jones said, "Here. Drink this."

Psuedoscientific Things JWs Say
by LostGeneration ini distinctly remember more than 30 years ago asking my grandfather how all of the races came about after the flood.. "well, noahs three sons were black, white, and oriental, and thats how all of the races came to be".
wtf, i thought to myself, even as a 9 year old kid.
a few years later i remember sitting in the kh listening to the sunday talk when the speaker went over the old "water canopy" theory, but of course presented it as fact.

Trying to differentiate between blood 'components' and 'fractions'. It's all blood!--mickeymouse
The blood thing cracks me up!! I told my mom, "I don't eat cattle. I mean... I'm okay with eating a ribeye... filet mignon... chuck roast... ground beef... T-Bone... Porterhouse... Ribs... But never a cow!!"
