i was thinking today how much psycopathy is reflected in the governing body leadership and especially manifested in policy.. jehovah's witnesses are not led by people devoted to charity, benevolence, outreach or social provision for those less fortunate which.

blondie you must know the bible probably as good as just about anyone alive i take it. people are impressed with my bible knowledge, but i doubt i even hold a candle to yours. my greek scripture knowledge is really good, but my ot is just ok, i'd rather read lovecraft--bout the same as ot.
i walk alone to the promised land....its a better place for me...but its far far away....everlasting life for me in a perfect world, but i gotta die first.

ambersun: with regard to your first paragraph, this is something that I would never have believed until i became more involved with the org before i left for good, and now, i do believe that they would love this opportunity if it were legal (although it would probably drive membership down lol). anyway, i'm not posting just to see myself type, i am posting because i would be extremely grateful if you could find this reference that you speak of...i think a lot of people on this board would be too (the WT article).

i would agree with all of that except changing the word psychopath to sociopath. i'm well aware of the dictionary definitions of these words; in my mind, when i think sociopath i think sociology, and when i think psychopath i think psychology. psychology to me speaks to the function of a person's brain within the context of pure personal mind health. to understand what i mean, i would say that a person who does not qualify as being psychologically healthy ,will always exhibit one major trait, and that is a deep-seated intrinsic perpensity to harm thyself (which always turns into harming those around you). the lack of personal psychological health can purely be described as "harmful"(which almost always leads to violence).
on the other hand, sociopath as i would relate it to sociology is a little different. sociopathy to me, relates to our level of functioning as it relates to other people (personal or group). i would say that you can be a sociopath without being a threat to anyone. sociopath = disfunction, psychopath = harm. disfunction can lead to harm but not always, and that is the key. psychopathy always leads to harm. the other thing is, many times the individual is unaware of the fact that they have sociopathic tendencies (sounds like a good name for a band), but psychopaths always know (whether they admit it or not) that they are aberrant. i think this is one of the reasons that i even bother posting here, i know that while some of these jws are psychopaths, others are merely sociopaths, and because of this, they can learn how to fix their lives.
yep.
you read the title correctly.. my daughter is a prosecutor who right this moment is prosecuting a dui crash with major injuries.
the defendant--the drunk driver--just tried to place an awake magazine with her while both of them were in the courtroom.. .
I think that this would be a good experience to re-enact during the circuit assembly. onward christian soldier.
in a nutshell: i think that (and i do not enjoy thinking about this)...i think that the crazies within the religion (who range from just low level people to co elder do and up) have won so many battles at this point (over the more balanced people/ideas)......that the people who tend to think in a more balanced fashion (whether they themselves be low level or higher up) are getting to be the real minority.
i think this dynamic, will be what finally sinks the ship.. as we see with any organization (corporate or otherwise), many times there are reports that make you wonder (how is this thing alive or prospering?
), and upon closer scrutiny, there are strong people in the background holding the walls up (who themselves get little attention).
I think there are multiple reasons. I know that some will express in a disgruntled and satisfactory manner that "they are just too insignificant and nobody cares"....thats semi true, it holds some truth, but only in the fact that there is some degree of relativism(in comparison to something the size of the catholic church). I think a lot of it has to do with choice(and that is where being a born in gets tricky). It's just like if you know there are some bad elements in town so you stay away from them, make sure not to aggitate them etc. and they leave you alone. But, if you go and decide you want to hang out with these people and then something bad happens to you, it is much less likely to garner much sympathy-- as it would if you were minding your own business and boom they gang mugged you.
If I would have read what you typed maybe 5 years ago, I would have blown it off as total lunacy. I started to get an inkling though of just how bad it used to be when someone at the kh told me that they used to not let people close the doors on them, and that they would ram their bags and or foot into the door, and use it as a wedge to get at the householder like an attack dog or something. i asked myself if "faith" ever actually had anything to do with this religion to begin with, other than in situations that they couldn't control anyway,so they thought hey, we knew we would get some use out of this word at some point. maybe the boys at bethel will return to having faith now that they are selling off all the property. same idea right? well we are losing everything, so hey, lets see about this faith thing again shall we? and yet they bash the younger people in the org to no end, for the same behavior.

May as well tell you all now, my father is an elder. If that explains some things. In other words, I was never very active with the org but I would get active then go away and do my own thing with my other life, then i'd come back again, cycle back and forth. The irony was the fact that when I finally did what a good jw is supposed to do, and got really zealous (didn't last long) but anyway, that is ironically when the walls came down. I assume a lot of the abuses were taking place the entire time, but i never really was that involved in the years previous to that, so my point of view towards the religion was very idealistic and naive (because like i said i never really got really involved until the end). as i spent time really getting to know different types of people, whether they were women in the org that i knew were being mistreated, or worldly people that i would have never otherwise gotten to know, i started to realize people in general, regular people, in many cases, are some of the strongest, most intellectually driven, deep people....that really woke me up to a lot....and i think that was the beginning of what woke me up to how disjointed the religion itself was. i expected the world to trample on people, but not "the truth".

don't think i said that at all, really don't appreciate being bullied either.
