Leslie, yes I remember. A lot of people make fun of Michael and he certainly has given them a realm of material to work with, but I also look at him with sadness. I don't believe he molested children. His mistake was paying money to silence the accusations.
King of pop? More like the life of a tragic princess. I think his upbringing has everything to do with the bizarre life he lives now.

Thanks Patricia. I didn't even know that about the Williams sisters although it does explain a lot. Isn't it strange how you'll meet someone and think they're different, I wonder if they're...

Silentlambs, isn't it interesting that they spend so much time and space on abuse in what they call, "Christendom", and when it's in their backdoor, they say, "Not all claiming to represent Jehovah practice what they preach."
Pathofthorns, I think you make an excellent point. I have my own spin on that...It is not surprising that abusing Catholic priests would do everything and anything to prolong their ministering and molesting careers. But if the majority of molesters within the Witnesses are members and not Elders (I know there are cases, but I've seen more of the former), you would think the Elders would do everything within their power to protect the victim, other children in the flock, the congregation, their reputation, their own families from the perpetrator. That seems like an no-brainer. I think that Elders who find out about sexual abuse have a GREATER responsibility/should do something. They certainly don't have to fear the perpetrator would victimize them. On another thread, someone suggested the victims are responsible for reporting. You can bet, molesters count on that logic. I suggest if an adult knows a child is being sexually abused and does nothing, he might as well deliver the lambs for the slaughter himself.
Why do abusers abuse? Because they can. -

Dissociated family excluded from funeral services
by Pardus inapparently, disassociated relatives are not allowed to be in the procession lines at kingdom hall services.
they can attend but they cannot be with their relatives to receive condolenses.
this happened recently to someone whose aunt had passed away.

Nicolaou, I hear your pain!
My mother is a Witness and we four children (30s,40s) are all either disassociate or disfellowshipped. We all respect our mother's beliefs but I had this great weight on my shoulders being the child who would handle the funeral arrangements. I horriblized for years this scenario:
An Elder gives the funeral talk, the Witnesses show up and no one ackowledges any of us children.
I'd even have dreams about this. One day I woke up in more ways than one and I said to my mother. The hell with that, there ain't no way we are going to bury you and have the double devestation of being ostracized at your funeral. We'll have enough grief as it is. AND YOU KNOW WHAT SHE SAID, "You're right. Just have a quiet funeral service. I know Jehovah knows what's in my heart."
I said, "No Mother I will invite the certain Witnesses who came to see you (she has a chronic illness) and a sister can go up and read some scriptures. But no Elder."
She agreed to this too.
It is just mind boggling that my siblings and I have had to even think of these things. But I have felt better since we discussed and agreed on this plan of action. -

Cygnus, I will only respond to your comments to me...
You write: However they are responsible for the congregation.
Are you suggesting that a person who feels that she was raped (whether by another JW or not) should NEVER discuss the matter with the congregation elders? That it is none of the congregation's business at all? Perhaps you are suggesting that an alleged rape victim ought to turn in their disassociation letter and quit and forget about the JWs altogether? There seems to be a great leap in logic here. Turn in a disassociation letter? I'm talking about victims being prepared not to get the emotional support they might think shepherds would give. Do I think rape is any of the congregation's business? Please. One of the reasons many women don't reveal their rape is the fear of shame, being made to feel guilty, heartless questions.
You write: I am uncertain that in your case whether it was the elders' responsibility and not yours to notify the authorities.
Well, let me see, our ages were 7, 10, 12 and 15. What do you think?
Your logic is something I have experienced all my life.

Me thinks the cat got Cygnus's tongue.
What response could he give, Reborn, that would be adequate? On the other hand, perhaps his silence speaks volumes.

And this from someone who claims to be Christian! Can you imagine Christ saying this:
Says Moreno, "You've got a teen, who has been molested, upset at the elders for not calling the police?" he said. "You can call the police. You're the one injured."
