  ROY; When I think about life in prison, I think of life under the absolutely harshiest conditions possible without causing the demise of the convict. It would NOT deter all criminal, but it might cause SOME to reconsider.

  I cannot accept the actual EYE for EYE type of punishment. One life for another is not an even trade for either the perp or victim.

  We all see thing differently, I would like to see some means to deter the crime before hand than to exact the pound of flesh after the fact.

  Xena, I understand what you are saying. I don't agree with the death penalty. It does not deter crime. It does provide retribution for the victims family, though. I would prefer a long term of "HARD LABOR" not the "COUNTRY CLUB" atmosphere of most, especially federal penal facilities.

  Once someone is executed, they can't, to my knowledge be brought back. Long term prison would be more of a deterrant and possibly would allow those "innocents" time to be exonerated.

  i just read a reply on another thread (doesnt really matter which one) in which a person made reference to 2 elders and said that they were not too bright, perhaps inbreeding.

  presumably this was said because the guys acted in a stupid manner in their counseling and were from the american south.

  are southerners really stupid and inbred?

  I feel you are wrong in your assement of the event being discussed. Enough said, we disagree.

  I don't know what basis you have for the comment on the "left coast" though. I have lived there as well as many other parts of this country. It's not that much different.

  Hi Robyn; This is in jest....You know why they call them "damn yankees" don't ya?

  They come to visit and never go home.

  Here we have "halfbacks", those are the ones that go to Florida, can't make it there and stop halfway back home here in North Carolina.

  Relax folks, My mother is from Mississippi and my father from Boston. I'm half&half.

  Yeru: the officer LOST control......He was not JUSTIFIED in shooting the dog regardless of the breed. He was SCARED..............He could have just as easily shot one of the human family.
