BRIAN; WOW..1 stone[14 pounds, correct?] a month. GREAT. I have been on a diet since early July and have lost 30 pounds. 1.5-2 pounds a week average. I just altered the amount of my intake and the types of food I eat. Mostly vegatables and a small amount of chicken.

OK, I many years ago was forced[while in the service] to go to rehab. Rehab in the service is not anywhere near the modern day versions. Traetment included force AA meetings etc. To make a long story short, I stayed sober for about 9 months. 24 years later I got sober again and have been since.
At risk of flaming ridicule....I quit drinking this last time because.....It interferred with my SCRIPTURE study. I do not attend any support group. I JUST DON'T drink. After about 2 years of physical problem[sweats, pains, seeing the snakes, etc] I began to see my pattern of behavior being altered. I drank alot of water and coffee....It was a substitute for bending the ole elbow. It was almost 6 years before most of my finer motor skills returned. I still have a difficult time driving an automobile. The biggest problem.....still with me....... is the inability to interact with other humans. During the time of my life that I should have been developing my social skills......I was DRUNK [Also a heavy drug user..of all types. but that is another story]. I prefer solitude, I don't get into as much trouble that way.
1 Jan. 2003 is my 7th year of being sober.
I don't have any magic formula or a set pattern of support to expound to someone that needs help, sorry, and I really mean SORRY!!!
Bottom line, Though...A person has to have the DESIRE to quit, or nothing will work!!!

Told my JW Story at AA Meeting
by COMF ini was invited to be a guest speaker at the saturday night aa speaker's meeting.
this meeting usually has a large crowd and they get somebody with longtime sobriety to come up and tell his story of "what i used to be like, what happened, and what i'm like now" as an example for others.
i'll have eight years in january, so i guess that makes me fairly longtime.. i told them:.

About My Steam Train Pics..
by Englishman ini guess that everone knows that i will post a pic of a steam locomotive if the sightest opportunity presents itself.
sometimes i do it if a thread is getting heated, there's something about a pic of a steam engine that makes people smile, so it does often defuse a situation.. here's a bit of history:.
back in the early 60's, it was decided by the british railways management, that all of it's steam powered units would be replaced by the cheaper, cleaner diesel or electric locos.

EMAN; I like trains, especially steam trains. I live about 50 feet from a rail line, and in past years an old reconditioned steamer would come by. They have discontinued using this line and I haven't seen a train go by in quite some time. I really loved the whistle!!!!!!!
I have a book on trains written by a Brit[I think] named Garratt. Lots of picture, steam and diesel.

Hamburger - fluff time
by larc ini have been very busy translating the dead sea scrolls and finding out how to explain to everyone what is the meaning of life, so i feel a need to take a break from my ponderous works to ask all of you a pregnant question, to wit, what is your favorite dish that is mainly comprised of hamburger, or contains hamburger as a major ingredient?
i do request that you only provide one, and only one selection.
(those who disobey this rule will be disfellowshipped and will not get a christmas present from me this year, even if i promised you one.
