how important is evidence to your world view?.

if you had to make a decision on a fact being true, what would be the deciding factor for you... your feelings and faith, scriptural statement or evidence presented by modern science?.

would scripture trump evidence, or would faith trump scripture etc .

I assume you have not read any neurology or psychiatry textbooks or papers. I am not going to do the work for you, as proven over and over on this board. Research and hard work that can take months/years to accumilate, yet explained in a single post, can be easily dismissed by the questioner. However, had they done the months/years of researching and reading, it would not be so easy to dismiss.

P.s. just as a bonus piece of info, the figuritive 'heart' and the mind is exactly the same thing. A human heart is a pump, like a water pump in a car or an oil pump in a car or like a pump for your swimming pool.... Th egyptians, quite wrongly, thought that emotions and ideas came from the heart and hence held it in such high regard. In reality you just have a mind, one mind. There is no real heart v mind battle, just contemplation of the mind. Anyone wanting to know more about the mind can ask botchtower in about 6 months when he has finished his reading. But alas, the bible is once again fiction, the heart is just a pump... damn you priests and scribes !

So we have quantitative empirical measurements of minds or things we consider properties of minds? That's news to me.

I'd wager every one on this board believes human beings other than themselves have minds like their own.

Minds, however, cannot be weighed or measured in any sort of quantitative way. They are immaterial. Yet all of us are aware of our own minds, which is something we directly experience in a subjective fashion. This is not normally the case with the minds of others.

All of us, in this respect, believe in the existence of something without scientific evidence proof.

I heard from her own mouth give speeches where she condemned birth control.

So?

She was dealing with extreme poverty and mandating that these people stayed in extreme poverty and bring more and more children into it. Children they couldn't care for.

She was mandating none of this.

Instead, I look at these poverty stricken Catholics, and those that fell in with them, and I think they didn't deserve the treatment they got.

These were people dying in the streets. They would have received NOTHING but not for her and those who collaborated with her. MT provided simple medical relief to thousand of people. She founded places for those dying abandoned in the streets to at least be able to die in a bed, with a roof over their heads, while not being treated as pariahs to die alone. She provided basic education for poor outcast children who would otherwise have had none. But that was not her mission in life. She wasn't a doctor. She wasn't a nurse. Her calling was to save souls. Jesus himself did not cure all disease, end poverty, or establish schools. Jesus said the poor and sick would always be with us. He came to open a path for souls into the kingdom of heaven.

If it were merely criticism or scrutiny, perhaps. No one is above that, and certainly not MT. What these atheists are doing, however, is an attempt at character assassination. I believe it is driven by ideology and hatred.

She deserves scrutiny.

When those mentioned in the OP give up everything to go to one of the poorest fitlhiest places in the world, and help the dying for the rest of their lives as those of her order did, then they will be able to legitimately scrutinize this dead woman. These privileged coddled college atheists mentioned in the OP have no moral authority to criticize from their comfortable secure situations. And neither does the trotskyite atheist lush Hitchens, brilliant as he may have been. When they renounce their creature comforts and go scrub filth and walk through the valley of shit, vomit and death and tend open festering sores and hold the abandoned sick dying in their arms, then, maybe then, will they have some credibility.

If There was a Cosmic Pain meter...

imagine that it was possible to precisely measure the amount of suffering in the world at any given moment - a cosmic "pain meter".

decide for yourself what the unit of measurement would be.. we can only imagine a fraction of the combined suffering that is being felt right now.

physical pain, emotional despair, grief, desperation, loss, terror and hopelessness.. of course if there is an omniscient god then he knows to the last iota what that theoretical meter would read right now.. the bible contains a number of answers to the question of suffering - ever since the babylonian exile one popular answer has been to blame his nemesis the devil, "we know that we are children of god, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.
