  How IGNORANT can you be and still be a Jehovah's Witness in GOOD standing?

  as i have said many times, i did not really study jw teachings in depth until i went to prison.. i had a period from 1959 to 1967 when i---sort of----could explain things to a shallow depth.

  once i entered that profound place in my head (while in federal prison) when everything got serious.....i entered a secret room, so to speak, where.

  all the mysteries were hidden!.

  I have been thinking the same way lately. Especially with all the information trying to identify the "slave class" and the emphasis on "Our Herritage".

  Even though I haven't believed JW teachings for 40 years I tended to dismiss their teachings because their basic premise is false. I like to look at the foundation beliefs of a system to save the time of wading through every fallacious statement. Once I figured out that the Bible wasn't the book they thought it was I was content to just pay attention to my most recent indoctrination.

  It reminds me of the Hindu answer to what the earth sits on. The earth sits on the back of an elephant - and when asked what the elephant sits on the answer is it's elephants all the way down. Not only is current JW dogma toxic - it's toxic all the way back. And why not? The Bible isn't so special either. The Bible is just like the oldest "bound volumes".

  The problem is that it is so easy to just forget the past. But the past is the source of all the current nonsense.

  I still attend some meetings with my wife. She married me as a witness. We've been married a long time. She isn't going to leave me. She raised our four children (none are witnesses anymore). So I give her the dignity of not having to always sit alone at the hall. I actually enjoy it because in my head I'm playing "Name the Fallacy".

  I believe there are visitors from other worlds (interplanetary or more likely interdemensional).

  I detest the industry that has grown around this stuff.

  Art Bell and Noory Coast to Coast etc.

  It goes on and on and on. The interviewers of these information peddlers don't need to poke fun of the ridiculous ideas but they should at least get the facts and ask really penetrating questions.

  But then they wouldn't have a job either because the experts would gravitate toward the interviewer that makes it easy.

  Adultery in the Bible

  i know that when you take a marriage vow, faithfulness is expected and either party going outside that bond is wrong.

  however as i read the bible i seem to notice that in the old testament a woman having relations with anyone not her husband was adultery, however the only way a male can commit adultery is to have relations with another married woman, thereby infringing on another mans wife.

  if a married man was to have relations with an unmarried woman or prostitute, this isnt considered adultery.

  i have noticed that there is a lot of speculation on how well witness perform in marriage.

  there is a simple equation that can be used as a guide to work this out.

  The divorce rate is about the same for JW's as the general population.

  I was sitting at a Watchtower study on marriage where they were basically bragging about the power of "God's Word" to hold marriages together.

  I got bored and started listing in the margins every wedding I had been to in the previous 40 years. Witnesses get to go to a lot of weddings.

  I listed a little over 50 weddings. Then I crossed out all those that were no longer married. Almost exactly half were no longer together.

  A small but unsurprising survey.

  The biggest factor is how two personalities get along after the sexual heat is off. Opposites attract but they don't last. The other extreme where two people are very similar doesn't work because there often isn't enough passion. That leaves a middle area where the people are enough alike to get along and different enough to generate some heat.

  Marriage really is a 50/50 proposition. Half work well enough and half fail.

  This is typcial of dissenters. They tend to fragment.

  It's all noise in the machinery.

  Most people who are no longer JW's have a lot of catching up to do and don't have time for such distractions.

  The choicest morsels yet came from a Governing Body dissenter - Ray Franz. And he remained a captive to the really big lie "God and the Bible Storybook"

  Time will do more damage than any "anti-" group.

  The phenomenon that my family and others experienced (neighbors and friends in a 5 mile radius) was either aliens or demons and I don't believe in demons.

  Friends that I have explained this to in details and who know me to be a skeptic just shrug their shoulders. Known skeptics can be deluded.

  It really doesn't matter whether you believe or not. There are no life and death consequences. I don't believe in the alien crashes and anal probing abductions. Those things are unlikely based on what aliens would do here if they were so advanced as to be able to travel long distances instantly or jump dimensions.

  Among the thousands of reports there are about 5 percent that are really substantive.

  I went to a lecture last year by Richard Dolan and got an autographed copy of A.D.

  I haven't had time to read it. I did get to talk to him about my experience with a UFO.

  It was a lecture sponsored by MUFON.

  There were about 75 people in attendance. They weren't weird at all. They seemed very informed.

  I'm not a member of MUFON. Just curious because of my own experience.

  And what's so sacred about the text book for the school? They take them back when school is over.

  The Watchtower is just another ordinary human religious organization that doesn't realize the Bible isn't the book they think it is.

  All the special schools are a pathetic and feeble effort to boost morale.

  30 hour pioneers?

  I remember when most of the servants all got in 30 hours every month. Pre book study service = 4 hrs. per month. Wed bible study night 4 hours per month. Friday night street corner work = 4 hours per month. Saturday2 hours door to door and 1 hour magazine route calles = 12 hours per month. Sunday morning field service 2 hours and 1 hour back calls = 12 hours per month. Total = 36 hours per month.

  That was my routine from the time I started taking doors myself at 5 years old in 1950 old until I left home at 21 in 1967. That's a total of around 6000 hours by the time I reached 21. Add the 420 hours at long 60 minute meetings not including prep and travel time. That comes to a total of over 12000 hours of the most valuable youth time you could ever have. 12000 hours of peak mental abilities to learn. They say it takes 10000 hours to become an expert at something. I am an expert at NOTHING.
