  just curious to know the steps that brought you to become an atheist.

  just wanted to shared mine in a nutshell:.

  1. learned that evolution had credibility.

  1. Learning about evolution and eventually believing it. At this point, I still believed in God. I saw no contradictions.

  2. Learning about other religions and how similar they all are. Started thinking about why they exist, what purpose they serve people psychologically.

  3. Critically examining the Bible. Learning that "I don't know" does NOT equal "God did it" or "It's magic." This was a huge step. When I applied this rule to everything, I found that the supernatural claims of religion are unfounded.

  4. More research on science, philosophy, and history. Astronomy probably had the biggest influence. Lots of good refutations for design. And philosophy, like the problem with evil, what actually defines God, etc. Also, the way religion and God relate to fear of death.

  5. Right now, posting about it...

  I'm Starting To Understand Atheist and Evolution

  for many years i was sincerely perplexed when someone told me they believed in the evolution theory or were an atheist.

  i never understood how someone could ignore all the evidence for intelligent design and overlook all the holes in the evolution theory.

  for example, the human biology clock is synced with the rotation of the earth, the earth is the perfect distance away from the sun to sustain life, the earth has an ozone layer to protect us from the sun's radiation, the earth naturally produces fruits and vegetables to be used for food, our bodies produce enzymes to break down the fruits and vegetables so it can nourish us, the earth produces water and oxygen, etc.

  I would have to respectfully disagree. In fact, I'm currently working on a list of reasons why I am an atheist. I have 25+ reasons. None of them are emotional. If it was about feelings, I would rather believe in a God who would resurrect my dead loved ones. On the other hand, it seems you are so defensive of your belief in God because atheism and evolution seem to hurt your feelings. And why would evolution refute God's existance anyway? My lack of belief is based on much more than the mere theory of evolution. If you'd like to have a debate with me on another thread, you are welcome. I would like to have a debate; it's a certain hobby of mine, and hopefully we can have a positive interchange of knowledge. Perhaps you can see my reasons for being an atheist more clearly then.

  JWs want the medical community to RESPECT their beliefs

  how can jehovah's witnesses demand respect from the medical community as regards to their refusal to take blood tranfusions?

  how could i ask my doctor, or anyone for that matter, to engage in my suicide?

  how can a witness ask a doctor, or anyone, to take their child's life?.

  There are cases where the doctor on duty knows full well that without a blood transfution the patient will die, barring a miracle. So, in these cases, a Witness telling a doctor that they will not take blood under any circumstance is akin to asking the doctor to help them commit suicide. The same goes for a child that is dying. How can a Witness ask a doctor, or anyone, to take their child's life?

  Exactly. If the whole point of the blood doctrine is to show appreciation for the sanctity of blood, and therefore life, then getting a transfusion to save a life would actually be showing more respect.

  if you believe that the bible's command to 'abstain from blood' was merely a dietary restriction do you make sure to check the labels of meat to see if it contains 'by-products'?

  i remember this was a common practice back in the 80's and a lot of hot dogs had by-products so we couldn't eat them.

  but i have rarely heard this mentioned in recent years.

  It could be either way. If you are refering to a guy, most names like this will end in "Y." Female versions tend to be "IE." Lots of examples of that, like Bobby/Bobbie, Billy/Billie, etc.

  Participation Conundrum Solved

  the reason you are encouraged told to participate is because for the r&f it's the only thing they can take away when you've been naughty.

  as it is deemed a 'privilege'.. although we are told that 'participation' is a demonstration of our love and faith.

  therefore what they are saying is that they are allowed to restrict our demonstration of our love and faith.. interestingly 'cleaning the kh' is also deemed a privilege but you never hear of anyone with restrictions not being allowed to do so..

  Participation is always a sign of how spiritual a person is according to JWs.

  Seriously. I used to be told Jehovah wouldn't "Bless my efforts" if I didn't answer at the studies. Like God was gonna kill me for not speaking an underlined answer in the KH? What the hell?

  @BluesBrother: I'm sorry, but anyone who tries to reconcile 6 literal creation days using special relativity is not very smart. But that's just my opinion. It matters not that he has a degree and people consult him. Lots of nuts and Young-Earthers do.
