judgemental and closeminded were exact descriptions of my former jw self.. recently on another forum, someone posted a cartoon depicting the character urinating on the bible.
i had an immediate revulsion and concluded this was not appropriate, letting the poster know my thoughts.
other's on the forum did not see it as i did.

I don't consider making a mistake to be a lie.
mds called me a liar because I told him that he showed no signs of love for his fellow man. He said that he showed his love behind the scenes. Well, there is no way for me to know that, so it doesn't make me a liar. All I can do is evaluate his public statements. As TR said about mds "I don't believe that mds has ever shown a personal interest in anyone on this board....He is like an automaton spitting out interpretation." TR if you are out there, I agree completely with your assessment.

Back to your original example. I think it is wrong to desecrate what other people find sacred, e.g., burning the flag, eating a steak in India, or putting dung on sacred Catholic images as they did in an exibit in a New York City museum.

I would rather have people be real direct with me and even be confrontive than be evasive and use "tact". This verbal fog the JWs call tact is damned annoying. I don't like to have to spent a lot of time figuring out what people really mean, and if fact, they are out and out lying to me. As the song says "hit me with your best shot, fire away."

this typical congregation of 120 publishers has lost 19 inactive since 1999.. the march 2001 issue of kingdom ministry (australian edition) gives the number of publishers for december as 58,426, pioneers 3,315 and 19 baptized.. in dec '98 there were 58,706 pubs,and in dec '99 there were 58,000.. with 1,600-1,800 being baptized each year, there is indeeed a 2,000 shortfall.. so, who's to blame?

Or should I call you old timer? Don't worry about turning 60. I turned 60 in October, and I am still pretty fit yet. I still have hopes of visiting Aussieland. They really seem like a lively bunch. I like that. Of course, a group that starts out as a penal colony can't be all bad.
This thing about Witnesses and their "works". Goal setting is a good thing. Problem is when your only goal is to place literature and convert others, then much broader, more important, and less measurable goals go by the way side, such as love, mercy, forgiveness, and charity. Too bad.

After I read your question but before I read Thirdson and Seven's comments I figured the answer would be no. JWs are willing to accept help, but won't give any. This was brought home to me while reading a WOL thread. They were giving advice to this destitute sister who was getting no help whatsoever from her brothers and sisters. Some of the posters pointed out the various charities that could help and how some of them had availed themselves of such help. Of course, Witnesses don't give to charities even though they will accept help from them in a heart beat. That is shamefull, unchristian behaviour in my opinion.
So, their blood stance fits right in with their mind set. Accept help, but don't give it.
