Well, all my friends who predicted Argmagedden whould be here before I graduated from college are grandparents now. I guess that's why I find it dificult to get all emotional when people like spectrum, logical, mds, bjc, and jr come here to tell us we are living in momentous times Armageddon wise. Instead of going preaching, I think I'll go fishing this spring, with my grand daughter.

there are many things that could be changed, and even though i would never go back, i think there are some very basic changes they could make in their child rearing practices, simple changes that would make a big difference in their society.. 1. don't force small children to sit for two hours in a chair.. this was discussed at length on the thread about slapping children at the kingdom hall.. 2. don't bring children to meetings where the subject has to do with adult sexual practices.. 3. don't tell teenagers that they can't ask someone out for a date unless marriage is on their mind.. 4. don't tell them that they are not special, that they have to humble themselves and be like everyone else.. 5. don't tell them they have to get good grades through high school as a reflection of what jehovah has given them and then tell them they can't go to college when they graduate from high school at the top of their class.. 6. don't tell your wordly neighbors that you give your children presents all through the year, but not on their birthday, when they have never seen a special gift wrapped present in their life.. 7. don't expect a shy child to enjoy going from door to door and don't expect an extroverted, lively child to sit still at meetings.. 8. don't tell an inquiring child not to ask questions and don't tell them not to read interesting books.. 9. don't surprised if you don't change your ways that your children will leave you, even though they love you.

BTH, Trevor is a very well educated professional. Of course, JHW is not following the party line and is trying to resolve his cognitive dissonance, and people here, I think rightly so, are making him look at that dissonance.
Leon Festinger was the first psychologist to study cognitive dissonce in his classic study where he -blah, blah , blah .... never mind.

I think the JW's in your area who said that Ray is full of himself are very biased. I have met him and he is as kind and helpful in real life as he is in his books.

Any man who could start life over at the age of 60 with no financial resources and write two books does not have a weak character. "Hand wringing" can be found among people of high morals who are bothered by crass decisions at the top and the "grain of salt class" at the bottom. Of course, those who don't care about the fate of others never wring their hands now do they - how macho of them.

Ray Franz has several beliefs that are quite different that the JWs. He believes that all CHistians will go to heaven and therefore, everyone may partake of the bread and wine. This can be done at every religous gathering, not jut once a year.
He believes that blood transufusions are acceptable. He doesn't belive that the door to door work is necessary, rather, Christians should go from home to home, that is, pay visits on those who have expressed interest in other contacts with them, e.g., at work, socialy, in our neighborhood conversations, etc. He doesn't believe that their are more natural disasters
after 1914 than before 1914. He doesn't try to interprete Daniel or Revelations.

Folks,
I have read alot, both on this forum and other places, about the large financial resourses of the Society. Although I have lot to fault them for, their resources don't bother me. I would be more interested in the uses of these resources beyond their stated mission. For example, Rutherford lived like royalty. If that proved to be true of the elite today, that would bother me and that should be exposed.
