Jehovah's Organization

i've recently had a discussion with a witness friend in which she said that jehovah had to have an organization.

if not jehovah's witnesses, then who else could possibly have his approval?.

what i would like to know is if jehovah has always had an organization, who were they?

I agree with Waiting that through history there have been good hearted individuals, and I would add, both inside and outside organizations. I don't see any convincing evidence that there are any organizations from Christ's time to the present day that represented Jehovah. As Ray Franz put it "with depressing regularity" well meaning people start with good intentions and as their group grows, their original intentions become corrupted.

MDS's comment about Ray Franz is way off base. I have met him and I have read his two books. He has made every effort to prevent others from following him. He says very little publicly about his personal beliefs, and as far as I know, he does not speak in a public forum. The man had great courage and stamina to write what he did. If I where in his position, I couldn't have done. I admire him but I don't follow him nor anyone else for that matter. As far as my personal beliefs go, I would disagree with him and all of you for that matter on many issues.

why this logic didn't occur sooner, i have no idea.

Thank you for that quote from Russell. That was very interesting. I haven't seen a JW at my door for years. (Whatever happened to the plague of locusts concept.) If they ever do show up again, I would like to use that logic and get their reaction. They are so programmed (as I was) that taking them off track like that would probably put them into a brain freeze. They would look like a deer in head lights and then tell me they had to move on.

I have an average house in a rich neighborhood. Not their favorite territory. (If you can't be rich, it's good to live nearby. You get more for your tax dollar.)

What is a false prophet?

i have been to many different sites in the last four years regarding religion.

i find it amusing that when a leader or founder of a movement takes upon the role of someone who speaks for god, and then what the founder said as "supposed" truth from god fails, they back peddle and try to give new meaning to what was really meant to begin with.. i myself look at charles taze russell (bible students), joseph smith (lds), ellen g. white (adventists), and others that took upon themselves as spokesmen for god, as false prophets according to deutoronomy 18:20-22.. of course those that follow such movements will at times say that what was said by the leaders actually happened in a way different than what was actually intended, when actually it was a clear failure as to what was supposed to take place according to the founder or leader of the movement.

i would be interested in opinions as to what anyone believes what a false prophet is to them.. just because someone does not come out and say: i am a prophet for god, does not excuse them (imo) from the failures they spoke and mislead people with.. what are your opinions.

Well, whether it's called false prophecy or false interpretation, it can do a powerful amount of harm to the believers, either in sacrifices they made including death, jail and poverty that were later said to be unneccary, or in shifting, wavering beliefs that undermine the confidence of those who would like to believe.

Who was Jehovah's organization from 150AD to 1850. During that 1700 years, did he have one organization or were there several along the way, and if so who were they?

Also, what was the organization in the 100 years just before Christ was born?

Waiting and Redhorsewoman,

I find your escatology to be impeccable. I have one concern about the perfection and clothing concept. Since women, in their present state, are closer to perfection than men, they would take off their clothes first because they would reach the state of perfection first, and us poor men would never reach a state of perfection, because we would want to hange on to our imperfect thoughts as long as possible. Not only that, you would excaserbate the problem. You would say things like "Well if you can't get undressed yet, could you at least wear tighter jeans?" Then our poor minds would turn into putty, and we wouldn't reach perfection in a thousand yars.

BTW, the reason I missed the reference you mentioned: I have a New Testament Bible that shows eight translations, the ones I mentioned and the King James, where the eight versions are shown side by side, which is handy for comparisons but it doesn't include the technical notes.

It is a comforting quote.

I'd like to share an experience regarding another comforting quote. I knew a very religious ederly woman who's adult son was gay. His life style was totaly at odds with her beliefs, but she was very loving to him. I asked a relative about this seeming paradox, and they replyed, "Hate the sin, but love the sinner." I found out later that St. Augustine had said this. Oh, how I wish the JW's would take this attitude.

You have given this serious thought and I will have to do the same. I can only assume that you are right. I wonder why all these versions include it? I wish I had access to the scholars to ask them.

I have a joke on this subject; hope you don't mind. As you probably know, Catholics believe that Mary as well as Jesus was perfect, so you have to go with that premise for the joke to work. After making the statement we are talking about Jesus looked up and saw a rock flying over his head. He turned around and said, "Mother, I told you to stay home."
