Sorry, about the 1914 thing. Back in the 1870's I had a long talk with Charles Taze (Russell that is). I said "Charles you're a busy businessman here in Pittsburg, do you relly want to go beyond a home Bible study and start a new religion? It's a huge undertaking and could lead to a lot of stress at home, divorce could result." He listened, but went ahead anyway. In 1879, I asked him if he thought the end of the world would occur in exactly 35 years. He was pretty confident. He showed me the math and it looked pretty scientific.

Well, time passed, as you know it will, 1914 was a pretty bad year but not as bad as we thought it would be. In the 1920's I had a chat with the Judge (Rutherford, that is). I asked if he was sure that 1935 was the year. He was even more convincing than Charles had been, Joe beein' the lawyerin' type and all. Well, after 1935, I retired from the advice giving business, and got into the joke telling business, both practical and impractical.

Getting back to Noah

Some time after we got off the Arch, I told my brother not to make fun of dad because he was drunk and naked. Only the family would know since the neighbors were gone. The animals had pretty much dispersed so they didn't care. The kanagroos were already hopping their way to Australia.

I mentioned my cousin on the humor page. He served in WWII, and definitely was not a believer like his mother or his sister. Even so, he gave up Christmas for his children so as not to offend his mother. He advised me against doing the same. The first year I put up a tree and had Christmas Carols on the hi-fi, the brothers came to the door to invite me back to the Kingdom Hall. They could see and hear everything.

Well, they waited til spring to send the registered letter for me to sign for my upcoming disfellowshipment. My wife, who is more quick witted than I, told me not to sign for it. By the time they figured out what to next we had moved out of town, not because of them but because of my job.

I don't care if Christmas is Christian or of Pagan origin, it is a time of love and renewal for my family and I love it.

God is love and so is Christmas if done properly.

this is a quote from pathofthorns on that really long thread with several different topics.

i liked it so much that i thought to start a new thread about it.. instead of "hanging in" for the "end" to come, enjoy doing what you can to change things now in your life for the better.

do what you can and what you need to to be happy, and when the "end" comes, you'll have made the wait so much better in the meantime.. the society has oft told us that pursuing activities of charity other than the preaching of the good news(their version only)is a waste of time since it is not leading people to god's organization, and thus to god's kingdom.

I think you have good heart and I think the biggest need is an emotional need.
Those who leave or want to leave are in dire emotional straights. They need the support of people like your self. If you want to read what I have written go to the humor section of this site, and look up " you might be a witness if" or something like that.
It is not on the main menue, but can be found by hitting the button at the bottom of the main menue.

Regarding your statement about deeding over to the ancients straining common sense.

Nothing strains common sense when you are a true beleiver. For over ten years, in the late 40's and early 50's the WT did not write about this. Even so, there were JW's who believed that the ancients would appear at the 1958 world assembly in New York City.

One of these was Betty Harrison, I remember her and paid close attention to her words because I had a crush on her daughter Karen.

Been there, done that, remember most of it.

I didn't want to get so heavy, but everything I wrote is true. Everyone in my family knows this, including my sister who is still in and my two cousins who are out.
