hoser : We are going back 50 years or so. When I was a kid we ordered everything from the sears catalogue. It showed up about a week later in the mail or at the sears depot in our rural town.
Today we order on line. The stuff I order shows up a week later in the mail or on my doorstep.
Yup! It's a similar process.
But nthere are some differences. As in this video:

Satan , Israelite`s /Jews view ./ Satan Christendom`s views .
by smiddy3 inover the years i have come across different writings that suggest a total difference in how the chosen people of israel and the jewish religion of today with the "old testament" viewed "satan" and how the many of christendoms religions including the jehovah`s witnesses view satan in the bible .. they seem to be at odds with each other ?.
does the christian greek scriptures " new testament" contradict the hebrew scriptures of the "old testament " about who or what satan is ?.
the israelite`s /jews were gods chosen people for 4,000 years wouldn`t /shouldn`t they know better about satan than the christian religion that usurped the jewish religion ?.

What seem to be the earliest (it is difficult to assign a date to the various documents that have been preserved as part of the OT) documents that form the OT, do not seem to provide much information about 'Satan.' And, for example. was the 'serpent' story of Genesis 3 really a later interpolation added between chapter two and four? If so, there does not seem to be much knowledge of this character in early judaism.
Perhaps the document known as Job, marks the first real introduction of Satan to Jewish thought. Out former brothers, claiming guidance by holy spirit (though they still seem prone to error) claim that it was written by Moses, though they offer no evidence for that in the Aid book. But what if it was really written during the Babylonish captivity? The Wikipedia entry suggests that time period.
Quote: "Rabbinic tradition ascribes the authorship of Job to Moses, but scholars generally agree that it was written between the 7th and 4th centuries BCE, with the 6th century BCE as the most likely period for various reasons."
Such a date makes it possible that the writer may have been a Jewish scribe exposed to Zoroastrian thought , particularly if it was later in that time during the the initial Persian period. In Zorastrian thought we find a much greater detail about the opposing forces of darkness and light.
By the time we get closer to the Jesus time, we may observe in the writings of the Qumran community (The Dead Sea Scrolls) even more detail about the opposition of light and darkness. Satan now is a much more developed personality.

Where Jesus goes, so do the sex harassers.
by fulltimestudent inhongkong, a relatively small city by asian standards, with a still smaller number of christian believers, still managed to reveal 55 cases of sexual harassment in local churches in a recent survey.. quote: "but a survey of hong kong protestants has thrown up 55 sexual harassment cases in churches, half of them allegedly committed by pastors or church leaders.. the survey, released on sunday by the hong kong christian council, came after a hong kong pastor was accused of taking sexual advantage of women with whom he had built paternal relationships.".
and, another very truthful quote: "the survey shows an inconvenient fact: that sexual violence in churches has never stopped,” council assistant executive secretary jessica tso said.".

No-one has yet stated the obvious, that whatever scribe sat down and summarised the Jewish folk-tales, (that have become the christian accepted version of the flood story). was using the original flood story as a template.
How do we know that?
Simply from the existence of an older written history!
If any Christian is willing to challenge his/her beliefs, they will find this older flood story insightful and informative.
You have all the plot devices that the Jewish scribe used in his Genesis account.
A god bent on destruction, but willing to save some. A life-saving vessel, animals going in two by two**.
This earlier version is discussed in this post from Bible History Daily, published by the Biblical Archaeological Society, read more at:
https://www.biblicalarchaeology.org/daily/biblical-topics/hebrew-bible/the-animals-went-in-two-by-two-according-to-babylonian-ark-tablet/?mqsc=E3965710&utm_source=WhatCountsEmail&utm_medium=BHD+Daily%20Newsletter&utm_campaign=ZE8A6TZ72
Of course, in the end we realise that both versions are the work of human imagination, just as much as any space flick which imagines alien monsters threatening humans.

How did Christianity Achieve its Position as the World's Largest Religious Grouping?

There is little evidence to indicate that there were many Christians in the first 2 or 3 centuries of its existence. But after the conversion of Constantine (or, at least his toleration of Christianity) things changed. With one notable exception all future Emperors promoted Christianity. Imperial money was used fund the building of large meeting/worship building and more.
In a new book, published by Oxford University Press, Peter Heather, who is Professor of Medieval History at King's College London, and author of previous books,The Fall of the Roman Empire, Empires and Barbarians, and The Restoration of Rome' links early Christianity and Roman aggression.
And as an aside, its a link that continued into more recent times. When Great Britain fought the two wars with Imperial China in the first half of the Nineteenth century, the treaties which ended those wars, specifically allowed Gt Britain to sell opium into China, but also contained provisions that allowed Christian missionaries into China. And in more recent times our loving brothers in Brooklyn also decided (on occasion) to use the power of the current world hegemon to faciltate the entry of missionaries to some resistant nations.
Hence, its possible to argue that Christianity achieved its position by the power of the sword as much as anything else. So it may also be argued did its Abrahamic twin, Islam.
The book referred to, if the topic interests you is: Rome Resurgent: War and Empire in the Age of Justinian
And for an expanded discussion of what I've referred to above, see this entry in the OUP blog:
