Blind Allegiance to G.B. supported by scripture?
by honorsthesis inhey everyone,.
i have been getting in on going debates with brothers in the congregation about the role of the governing body.
i feel that jehovah would not want us to blindly follow a particular g.b.

guys, even if honourstheisis has a political agenda or a right wing agenda or any other agenda and has never been a JW - we are up to arguing our own sides (whatever they may be) - aren't we? I think we are

honourstheisis, keep going. keep questioning. The scenario you describe is hypotheitcal as you clearly point out and I'm guessing that in your actual questioning of JWs you did not present you argument exactly as above. So taking it in that spirit, and even if you are a republican at heart, I do get the sense that you are not trying to win debates but just to get people thinking.
occupying a stance of resistance is a hugely dignified and ethical way of living. so best wishes to you.
However I would say that blind allegiance to authority is supported by scripture. The GB are being scriptural in this respect. But there are verses in the bible that can be used against the position of requiring blind allegiance to authority.

Method for Identifying the Faithful Slave & Channel of God's Truth
by saltyoldlady inbarks & snorts - is their major means of communication barks and snorts?
matt 7:6 - "do not give holy things to dogs nor cast pearls before swine lest they trample them under their feet and turn and rip you open.
my application of the above - my loyalty to an org might be considered a "holy thing".

right on saltyoldlady this is our basic thought process at the meetings.

What is it with all the men waking up but the wives stay in? Why is it the opposite for me?
by Cadellin inthis is something i've thought about for a while now.
it seems like the same story on this board over and over--the husband, who also might be an elder, ms, etc.--starts having doubts and researching, aka miseryloveselders and franklin massey and others.
he starts to smell the coffee and realizes that this organization isn't what it claims to be.

my perception is that more men are staying in nowadays and more men are getting baptized. Today JW women have more and more access to education and jobs and are finding they have huge resources - they can feel and think - commonsensical stereotyping from the past and the present no longer holds true.
cadellin, I don't think your perception re this board is inaccurate though. It may be that when women leave a higher proportion choose other networking sites or divide their time more evenly between here and there.
edit: another point that could skewer the figures is that there are more married men in the congregation than single but more single women than single men.

just in from bethel
Also - I should probably qualify my critique on high count posters- some of them are priceless with incredible amounts of quality content. I just find it mind-numbing to see the ones that repeat over and over the same defense of the same imaginary friends or throw out scripture after scripture with no evidence of the scriptures being relevant, much less from any supernatural god.
I also know many more who are awesome high posters, grounded in reality, and have great lives outside JWN and are way more balanced than myself with less addictive personalities.
I so agree with your sentiments.
TEC, thanks for explaining. I hope you see beyond christ one day, holy spirit can do this

Curtains, I'm not sure why length of posting time matters?
Is this a serious question? I'm genuinely not sure. Length of posting time matters because an individual has had relatively greater opportunity to engage with posters here, make friends, gain posting confidence, learn from mistakes through interaction, go for therapy too, etc. Shelby has probably done all these things.
Recommending that she seek therapy is legit imo on a board like this. How is that attacking character? They are simply responding to her posts.
Curtains, some do people have fun at Shelby's expense, and often. She is often misunderstood in what she says as well, but there are also many posters here who love her, and do understand her... even if they do not always agree with her.
TEC, shelby has had a lot of fun at the expense of newbies. They may have their own private traumas and may be as fragile if not more so than she is. Have you considered this? BTW I love shelby too and when I disagree with her, or when anyone else disagrees with her, I don't consider that they are expressing what you or she ascribe to them. I know I don't anyway and I do not think the posters on this thread did either.

Tammy, isn't it a little unfair that you are defending aguest, a long time poster with over 6000 posts under her belt, against 2 newbies who together have under a 1000 posts?

aguest, I see you are having fun and drama with your misunderstandings. carry on ... but I hope the one who whispers in your ear is there for you when others decide to have some fun too at your expense.
