So, is Covid-19 Trump’s fault or Pence’s fault? Or is it Trump’s fault because he allowed it to be Pence’s fault? I’m confused, and I’m finding it hard to keep up with the news down in my bunker. Internet is terrible down here, and there is not much else to do except make some rice, beans, and count my silver.

Covid-19 (Coronavirus) - Status Update Thread
by Simon inthis topic is to focus on status updates & advice (no opinion or politics please).. status.
latest status is that it's serious, probably isn't going to be contained and most large companies are making contingency plans, cancelling large events etc... which i don't think would happen if it was just people being alarmist.
the incubation period means it may have already spread further and infected many more people than are currently known, so expect jumps in the numbers over the coming days and weeks.. tracking.

You are are greater risk if you have underlying health conditions but it's not so selective that no one else could die, it's just that you odds may be better the younger and healthier you are.
This is generally true. We had a young boy in our area die from the flu just a couple months ago. He was 12, healthy, had the flu shot, and didn’t seem to get that sick. I interpret that as he didn’t exhibit many of the common flu-like symptoms. The best we can say is that the situation escalated quickly for some reason, and he died. Nobody is sure why it turned out that way... but there you go.
I think it’s likely to be the same with this virus. If you are young and healthy, you’ve got good chances. Maybe even great chances. But every now and again, there will be an improbable death.

Just an FYI:
I was curious and went into the local Walmart and Sams club yesterday. All the shelves (where I live at least) are stocked full. Plenty of canned goods. Sams club has large bags of rice, entire pallets full, for about $12.99 each. Lots of bulk canned chicken. No panic here. I do live in a state with confirmed cases.
BUT - I did notice that at the local Walmart, Clorox and Lysol wipes were being pushed to the front displays and people were generally getting a pack or two. No panic buying though.
I grabbed a few bulk canned goods (veggies and meat) and some rice. These are things I will naturally eat anyway... so either way I’m OK.

Price gouging :
Unfortunately, the gut reaction here will most likely be to stop “price gouging” - which will make the situation worse ... *sigh*

Do you think there will be panic buying of food, guns ect?
by JimmyYoung ini wonder if there will be panic buying of food, guns, gas ect due to the corona virus.

But buy things you'll use anyway, then there is no waste - just recycle it over time, drawn it down when panic has subsided or whatever.
Yeah. As of now, this sounds like the key.

You take your chances I guess. Go out and clear the shelves.
If it turns out the rate is low, and this is going to kill people at flu-like rates, then ... well, I guess you’ll have a stockpile of canned foods..
Question: what death rate do you think warrants the panic and stockpiling? 3%? 4%?, 10%?

Meh.. too early to tell just yet. It seems like this virus is very contagious, and there is not much that can be done to prevent it from spreading. It might be one of those viruses that pop up every year. But I think if we get some good solid non-commie stats, from developed western countries:
1) it could show a low mortality rate and people will calm down
2) it could show a high mortality rate and then panic will start.
Personally, I don’t see a reason to freak out just yet. Let’s see how it plays out in Japan.

I doubt that China has deliberately not reported detected cases....
I agree. There is no way the Chinese communist party would release fake numbers. No way, at all, that a communist regime would, in any way, engage in propaganda or distort the facts in an attempt to cover up failures.

Right, and that is what I see reported: some places you get reports of this virus is killing at rates below 1%, and some reports that it is killing at rates higher than 2%. The Spanish flu was around 2.5%, I believe.
It sounds like we don’t really have reliable numbers just yet ...
