  have you done things BECAUSE they were condemned by the WTS?

  hey guys,.

  since leaving, has anyone done anything specifically because it was condemned by the society?.

  - i went and got a tattoo (i had wanted one anyway, but really enjoyed it since it was a no-no...i'm getting a big'n next week...).

  Yeah, I live a normal life and am a contributing member of society now.
  
  I did get my belly button pierced as an act of defiance when I was on my way out, though. It was my Declaration of Independence;)

  i wasn't sure where to post this, but since it has to do with family planning in a permanent sort of way, i am posting here.

  i have stated on two previous threads, that were about the choice to have or not have children, that i was planning on getting a vasectomy.

  about a month ago i went to see the urologist and i got scheduled for the procedure which i went in for on last friday.

  Kudos to all you guys who have a vasectomy so your wife doesn't have to have a tubal ligation.
  
  As far as policy on sterilization and the WTS goes, it's the same for both sexes. I was "counseled" about not seeking a tubal ligation after I had an unplanned pregnancy. I was told that if it became known in the congregation that I'd had one, I could lose privileges over it. It was the same for male members of the congregation.
  
  Now, it totally infuriates me that they even presumed to have a right to tell a person what to do with their own body. Then, I just chose the "don't ask, don't tell policy".

  Job applications and no references

  well, i'm hoping you guys have some suggestions for a pretty odd situation.

  i need to find a job so i can start saving for college.

  i moved back to a town i used to live in last january.

  Thanks, Concerned Mama. I'm going to try and get hold of some of my instructors. One of them volunteered to give me a reference when I was in his class, and another probably will, as I was in several of her classes, so she knows my work ethic pretty well.
  
  And you are right about letting them know why I have no contacts here. I've found that in the past when I've mentioned the shunning policy, people have a hard time wrapping their heads around the fact that you lose all your friends, and often family members when you figure out you are no longer a true believer and decide to leave.

  Well, I'm hoping you guys have some suggestions for a pretty odd situation. I need to find a job so I can start saving for college. I moved back to a town I used to live in last January. The problem is, when I lived here before, I was very JW, and only associated with others in the org. I haven't really met anyone yet I here, due to certain life circumstances, so I don't have anyone local I can put down as a reference.
  
  I did make a couple of good friends in my former town, and I think there are a couple of college instructors I might be able to use as references. I'm wondering if I should get their permission to use them. Do you think a potential employer would be put off by having to call long distance to check references? I really don't want to have to explain to them that I was a part of a cult for years, and now that I've left, none of my former friends will speak to me, let alone give me a good reference, lol.
  
  Just another odd thing to deal with, I guess:)

  she can't breathe, it's a constant battle, i don't know what to do.

  We need solid advice from former Elders

  almost unbelievably after 4 years of staying away from the hall and the jws last week they called and said there were allegations of apostasy against us.

  we have been very quiet about our feelings and so were very surprised and angered.

  we were told that they were going to discuss the allegation and determine if we would be formally accused of apostasy.

  it struck me that, for all the emphasis they put on evangelism and public preaching, the borg's leaders are actually a reclusive, shadowy lot.

  the only large audiences they will address are their own members, they rarely grant interviews and never seek opportunities to lead by preaching their message in a public or media forum.

  quite the contrary; in the one instance where jaracz made an appearanace (cornered by a bbc reporter), he came across as combative, and mean-spirited hardly as a spiritual leader of six million-plus.

  They remind me of the Wizard of Oz, the bumbling little man behind the curtain who kept everyone spellbound in fear, because by remaining invisible,his subjects were forced to form in their imaginations an image of their leader, and it was an indomitable one.Once Dorothy et al got a peek behind the curtain, the game was up.

  4JWY,

  Your number three desk is my dream desk-vintage style with a roll down top. I used to have a child sized version of it when I was a kid. Now I'd like a grown-up version. It looks great and hides clutter really well when you close it:)
