The rumor being spread is that the brothers (Cobbs) went apostate and were trying to get the congregation publishers to follow them instead of the Society. I know because I heard it myself from an active elder in the general area.

Menlo Park KH discussion in the WTS' eyes
by Magi inafter reading much on this scandal, we know that many if not all jws will not go out of there way to read up on this info.
does anyone know what the rumor in the congregations are about this topic?
i'm sure alot of them are just taken back by fellow witnesses taking the society to court, bringing reproach on god's name.

How Will the Society React to the Hundred Year Anniversary of 1914?
by slimboyfat init's only a couple of years away now and what a headache it must present to the gb - providing they have given it much thought already.
there probably is no elegant way of presenting the hundred year long failure of the end to come; the fact that the "short period of time" of satan being cast down to the earth has now stretched beyond any credibility.
but they have to deal with it one way or another.

It will be something like this...
" Yes it was 100 hundred years ago that Jesus was enthroned in Kingdom power! The last 100 years of Christian activity have brought tremendous growth to the "house of god". There are many of us who greatly desire to see God's name sanctified, and want to see the wicked destroyed and paradise restored. Many of us have anticipated this event for many years. Some with a fleshly view might reason that 100 years is too long. Remember two things. 1. God sets his timetable. 2. Jehovah views 1000 years as merely one day.
It is vital friends that we always look to this momentous event in universal history and be greatful that God's Kingdom rules.

NEW LAW Starting July 2012 in Qld Australia Preventing Door to Door Sales
by Hopscotch ini just read this in our local newspaper this morning and thought it is very interesting.
this law is aimed at door to door marketing by companies but i am wondering if this may end up including religious 'sales persons'.
the comments below the story are worth reading as jw's and religious callers are definitely who many people want stopped under this new law.. .

@ Gayle, the BOE was sent a letter in 2007 ( I think) that more or less said "if you go onto property posted as "no trespassing"" you are on your own, and we wont represent you with the legal issue". They would however represent the brothers in various freedom of speech issues like the Stratton vs Ohio case.
Now that I think of this, is this not the same as saying that the Society will "claim you as its representative" for freedom of speech issues but not as its representative for any other issue? Kind selective and typical

True story ........So I was standing in line at the hardware store yesterday, picking up some garden stuff and happened to catch the conversation in front of me.
The man in front of me was buying a no soliciting sign. The checker asked "who is this for, girl scouts?"
the man responded "those damn Jehovah's Witnesses. I have only lived here for three weeks and those bastards have come by twice." "I told them not to bother me, and if I ever want to learn about their crazy religion I will come to them".
The Checker replied...." I know, they just don't seem to get it. You can put yourself on a do not disturb list."
The man said in return, "if they come back again I will demand to be put on the list. I mean how disrespectful is it to come to my house at 10:00 in the morning to tell me that my religion is wrong?" " I don't stalk them down to say that I think they are a cult, I mean doesn't it go both ways?"
The checker replied, "they are trying to win converts. Everyone I know can't stand them."
I could hardly keep a staight face when I was paying for my items.
Attention Watchtower. The conversation above is exactly how you are perceived. Is it any wonder that you have zero growth from the territory?

Is The End of the "Preaching Work" Now In Sight?
by metatron inthere may not be any specific plan to end the "preaching work" but that doesn't mean that things can't evolve into such an outcome.
indeed, i now wonder if such a thing is probable!.
first, if (and it's a very big if) various nations develop case law that includes liability for volunteers, this will put the watchtower in a bind.

Great thread Met.
I think that the preaching work is already a farce. People know that a day in service equals a day where you waste time, money and gas. No one is coming into the religion out of the territory. Most of the growth in the developed world comes from witness kids who are encouraged to get baptized. It is a joke. As more people realize that they are on a hamster wheel they will slow down, fake their hours, and eventually quit. (Its already happening)

Soldier 77, were there significant problems that were visible within the congregation? The brother that came out to clean it up came from the branch? If you feel comfortable enough you can PM me.

Judicial Committee Meetings Sexual Matters
by Celestial inanyone had three elders (judicial committee) question you on sex before marriage?.
case in point, being raised as one of jehovah's witnesses, i partied with peers that were witnesses by tradition, inherent faith.
at the age of eighteen (1992), i was conversing about the elders with a group of witnesses, and a girl who had been before a judicial committee chimed in and said, they ask questions that are none of their fucking business.

@ billy the ex,
I am sure that the services departments answer to your question would be a question in itself. " where are the Siamese twins physically attached?"

Why Elders leave the Organization and why their Wives stay.
by stuckinamovement ini have talked to quite a few brothers who have served as elders and servants and left the organization.
in most cases their wives have remained in despite the husbands best efforts to persuade his wife that the organization is wrong.
even though the wife can see problems within they continue to press on in service to the society.

Thanks Minimus. Funny what thoughts you come up with at 3:00 in the morning. There have been a lot of good posts on this thread. I must admit that when I wrote this I was coming at it pretty one dimensionally. Thanks to those who chimed in with other angles. They are important to consider.
