The Quiet One - It seems like most of those involved have a track record such that most of us will not be overly suspicious that they will use donations in a nefarious way. Obviously no one has to donate who doesn't feel comfortable doing so. It seems that if anyone is uncomfortable the best course would be to wait and see what they do instead of being critical. To me, a crisis hotline seems like a great idea. Even if a couple people might be paranoid about calling in, it shouldn't stop them from helping the rest.

I will add, great job in getting the new Conti appeal documents on your site as well. Thank you for being the first, I think, to make them public.

Pat Robertson- No miracles in the US, to Ivy League
by designs inin case you were wondering why there are so few miracles in the us these days pat robertson explains all in an interview-.
on monday's episode on the 700 club pat explained that 'sophisticated americans' don't get the priviledge of god's handy work like 'foreigners' do namely 3rd world peoples.
seems education blocks the god signal or something.

Mitt Romney's godless Ivy League education must have been the reason that Robertson misinterpreted God's voice telling him Romney would win the election.

Thank you for your opinion, Lisa. After the subsequent comments about the structure of the interview, such as those of Cedars and Juan, I feel that my initial observation (which I qualified as just being a potentially cynical opinion) is not indicative of anything being hidden. I still think it was an unusual way to answer the question, but I probably should not have read anything more into it. As I said, I meant no disrespect to Ms. Conti.
Mind Blown - It was very clever of you to post definitions of smarmy and unctuous and to qualify your posts by saying they are for everyone else's benefit except mine. What exactly are you accusing me of? You say I am suspect. Suspect of what? If you have an accusation to make other than disagreeing with what I said in this thread, which it seems that you do, I think you should be clear about it, instead of hurling labels and definitions around. You are correct that I have experience with law. I'm in my last year of law school and have worked for a judge and for the government. I have not hidden that in my history on this site, although I don't proclaim it in every post because I don't think that makes my opinion more valuable than anyone else's. Perhaps that is why my comment came across in a way that seemed critical to some, although I fully support Candace and her case. In law school you are encouraged to question what lawyers do and what judges decide, and to try to see more than one side to every case (although as I have said, any issues about her past mistakes are in no way another side to this case - that is entirely irrelevant to the abuse case). If you still have accusations about my motives, I hope you have something more concrete to present.

Good link. This was an interesting observation:
"No reasonable, fair-minded, thoughtful rich man will ever get a million twitter followers like ignorant hateful twit Donald Trump, even if he had just as much money. Virtue has friends but vice has adherents. And anyone who has run an organization knows how much more useful an adherent is than a friend."

This book was a lot better than most of the other book study books for drawing in when you are a JW kid. I got in trouble for giving John some tats in the picture of him in shackles, as well as I think a flag on his head. And that was before you even get to the wild beasts, two horned beasts, and harlots. The cut and paste inserts did take a while, but wasn't that just because they finally got too lazy/cheap to make a 4th edition within 20 years of release?
And Julia, that is so true, the trumpet blasts representing WT conventions in the US is so bizarre, yet you never think of it when you're in. Can trumpet blasts include false information, like "Millions Now Living Will Never Die"? Does anyone know if that is still the current teaching about the trumpet blasts?

Juan,
Thank you for the clarification. I mean no disrespect to the Contis. Although I think it has been overlooked, a main theme of my comment and responses is that that question should not have been asked and/or Simons should not have allowed her to answer it. A secondary opinion is that if they did choose to answer it, it would have been better to be more direct, although apparently I am in the lone minority in the opinion that the answer was not direct. Again, I noted that they did not actually state whether there was selling of drugs or involvement with stolen property, so I don't see how everyone can assert that she fully answered the question, although of course she is not obligated to.
So my question is why, in light of what you say here:
<<Those kinds of questions completely miss the point of the case: The women are not on trial for any actions they may have taken or events in their lives.>>
why the question about prostitution was even asked. Perhaps you cannot answer this since you said you didn't come up with the questions. I ran a google search and I couldn't find a single page on the internet linking Ms. Conti to prostitution. So who are the "apologists" even making this accusation, and do you know why it was asked?
