i have the kindle 2 and i LOVE it!!! i researched them at http://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/E-book_Reader_Matrix
the kindle seemed like the best deal. it has a TON of free books (can't rememeber exactly how many), you can do facebook and email, play sudoku, hilight lines and make notes in books, text to speech, built in dictionary ( -just hilight a word in other ones you have to exit your book and look it up in a seperate book), you can change the font size.... i could go on... lol.
as a "reader" i once swore to never use an e-reader, but i TOTALLY changed my mind!! how awesome to be able to carry all your books at once!!

hi!! tomorrow is my birthday! :) i've "been out" for 5 years, and my inlaws have thrown me b-day parties for all 5 of those years. when i was a kid, my mom always said she didn't really think anything wrong with making your birthday a special day. (we would go to my great gramma's b-day parties cause "she was too old to understand why we wouldn't go" my mom said. lol) SO my mom would always call my older non-jw siblings on their b-day and let us younger JW ones do something to make us feel special on our b-days. it was always un-spoken that that was why we got to have a special day. but we knew. my mom was babtised when i was 2 and my dad got babtized when i was 4, so there were a lot of little things that my parents let us get away with (watching smurfs, reading scary books, using my brain, etc.. they knew nothing BAD was going to happen) so i don't exactly know how it is to have born-in parents.....
so.... what did you guys do for your b-days as a JW? or did it go un-noticed by your parents?

Fear of being shunned
by alfmel infor those who have been jws and left,.
1. how much did you delay your departure due to the fear of being shunned?.
2. what percentage of the congregation would you estimate remains active due to the fear of being shuned if they were to leave?.
-

1. i had never "meant" to leave. i was basicly pushed out by people shunning me based on liars, gossip, and people assuming things about me. them shunning me pushed me over the edge, depression wise. i was having severe panic attacks, anxiety, ocd's, self harming, suicidal.... i married a worldly boy and moved to his home town on the other side of the U.S. went to 1 meeting, assuming it would make me feel better, but i would freak out just THINKING of having my records moved here. so i never went back. then i was shunned by everyone else from previous congs. in other states.
2. looking back i have over heard PLENTY of people making little comments and talking about how the org just isn't right. i assume they stay for fear of loosing everyone.

don't forget a "shun" mode. you should also make head coverings for the women. instead of money, they can rack up points by praying, attending all meetings, service.....etc.

JW's: Did You Tattle-Tale To The Elders When You Heard Things?
by mentallyfree31 injust curious...how many of you went to the elders and reported to them things that you heard through gossip?
.
and how many of you knew things that could get people disfellowshipped, but decided not to tell the elders?.

only at my JC.... let a couple people have it. i had a JC because someone, i'm assuming 2 people, said that i "got pregnant before getting married, and was the only reason i got married so fast"..... wich was a TOTAL lie.... so i told the elders what THEY were doing. (they were the only ones i suspected, and of course i had stuff on them that was TRUE) felt good, but nothing happened to them. my worldly husband is still mad that i WENT to the JC at all....

a question for experts on disfellowshipping
by poor places incan you be df'd for atheism?
if you only tell the elders that you don't believe in god, and as a result will be decreasing your activity, will they reprove you and/or df you if you aren't repentant over time?
pretend that you aren't telling them anything about your feelings regarding the organization or governing body.

they'll df someone who truly loves God but questions a thing or 2. heard plenty of stories.... just depends on the elders... BUT they'll FOR SURE df you for not believing in God. why would you even stay???

What accusations do you have about us JWs? AND what group are YOU a part of?

madjw.....
why wouldn't you even try to deny something as terribly heinous and disgusting as pedophilia????? by you ignoring it, i would think you are. if someone accused ME, i would be pretty pissed!! sooo...... ?? trying not to lie by ignoring the question, are we? you always pull the same crap in EVERY forum. you never answer questions. you just pick one tiny little part of one's posts and bash it trying to pull the attention away from the "meat" of the post. totally over it.
