Hi outcast,

This is so typical of JWs. Their capacity for being able to justify almost anything is truly outstanding, IMO.

Any objective outsider can see the blatantly obvious hypocrisy displayed by those who direct the policies of the WT.
The UN is quite clear about what it requires of NGOs per the agreement that participants enter into. - this has been covered quite adequately on other threads

Suffice it to say that NGOs agree to further the interests of the UN. Period. The use of semantics in the posts on WOL regarding WT-UN relationship is quite a display of the JW mindset.
We are not being hypocritical because we agree with some of the principles as stated by the UN. We may be in disagreement over the methods the UN uses to advance their principles...

What a load...
The HYPOCRISY results from the existence of the relationship.
The WT has consistantly condemned the UN from it's inception as the League Of Nations for over a quarter century.
The mere existence of an association with what they label as the "disgusting" thing - and other adjectives - in of itself constitutes hypocrisy. [i]Some JWs will argue that having the status of NGO helps them further the "Kingdom work". How lame...
They are still in an association with the "beast". Bottom line.

apparently he paid for this from gifts given to him by wealthier brothers.

I would go a step further and say that Netanyahu, like all other Israelis and those who support them have totally misrepresented the basis of these terrorist attacks. They are loathe to admit that there is any connection between their ongoing battles with the Palestinians and terrorist attacks on New York and the Pentagon.

The Bible advances women's rights

our forum's now chapter likes to slander christian believers over alleged poor treatment of women.

in truth, the bible advanced women's rights in the ancient world, even in a paternalistic society.

here are the results of research into this topic.. num 5.12--the trial of bitter waters (sotah) is a an amazing provision by god for a woman to publicly clear her name (and indict a dysfunctional husband in the process).

If a woman's constitution was strong enough to withstand ingesting the toxic concoction that the priest made, then she was innocent. If, however, her body did not agree with this goop she was forced to drink, then - naturally - she was guilty.

We all know that two people could ingest the same substance - one could have a bad reaction to it and to the other it could cause sickness or even death.

Just one example: To some people, peanuts are literally deadly; even trace amounts are dangerous for them, while others suffer no ill consequences at all.

This was a law "God" gave the Israelites to advance women's rights? What a joke!!! Did you notice how the woman was categorized as under "Man's authority"?
Being the Bible thumper that you are, perhaps you can tell us how many times the Bible puts women under the authority of man...

i can understand the need for bush to do something, i just hope that massive military strikes against a muslim country doesn't further the cause of these terrorists.. i think it is reasonable to expect that bin laden would welcome such a response from the u.s. if bin laden were to be captured or killed i am sure he must have already put in place arrangements for the terrorist activity by his network to continue, maybe even on a stepped-up pace.

bombing the crap out of the afgans or any other muslim nation will surely provide immeasurable motivation for the terrorists who are part of bin laden's network to continue on their bloody rampage.

i'm sure bin laden is counting on that.. i think that since terrorists operate in the shadows, anti-terrorist operations must also operate in the same covert manner.

I think it is reasonable to expect that Bin Laden would welcome such a response from the U.S. If Bin Laden were to be captured or killed I am sure he must have already put in place arrangements for the terrorist activity by his network to continue, maybe even on a stepped-up pace. Bombing the crap out of the Afgans or any other Muslim nation will surely provide immeasurable motivation for the terrorists who are part of Bin Laden's network to continue on their bloody rampage. I'm sure Bin Laden is counting on that.

I think that since terrorists operate in the shadows, anti-terrorist operations must also operate in the same covert manner. These terrorists already know how mighty the U.S. military machine is. Amassing troups and deploying military equipment in a showy display of military might may look impressive, but I doubt that it's going to scare terrorists into abandoning their activity. Remember, being killed in a "Holy war" against who they perceive as "Satan" is considered an honour; and they have demonstrated abundantly to the rest of the world that they are not in the least afraid to die...

I sure wouldn't want to be in Bush's shoes for I'm sure he realizes he may be in a no-win situation. If he does nothing he will be seen as weak by the rest of the world and more importantly by his own citizens. If he strikes against a Muslim country, he may just be providing additional impetus for increased terrorist activity.

I think that increased funding and cooperation by friendly nations for special forces to operate covertly may be the only reasonable course to take.

I really hope I'm wrong about all of this, because if I'm not, we are in for more anguish than we can imagine...

And I also hope, for the sake of our British friends, that Bush's ringing endorsement of them doesn't turn out to be the kiss of death.

she used the word "thrilled" instead of "stunned".. i replied to her email and suggested she should edit her post to that end.
