"I never thought I would come that close to my retirement in this old system of things"
by Hoffnung insome time ago i was at a family gathering.
my father and uncles are all long-time elders in their congregations.
when they were discussing they all were 50+ now, one of my uncles said: "i never thought i would come that close to my retirement in this old system of things".

How to identify a JW from a distance
by Bungi Bill inmuch has apparently been said in recent years about how a "good" jw should be dressed and groomed, so as to be easily identified - even from a distance.. yesterday, while driving through town, i did see two people the distance:.
- and certainly, by the way they were dressed, my suspicions were aroused.. - however, what confirmed their identity was not their dress and grooming.
rather, as i drove up closer, i noticed both of them doing the "pioneer shuffle" up somebody's driveway:.

Years ago I joined the pioneers doing RVs one afternoon. Four of five of us in one car, naturally. We pulled up at a house and I was about to get out of the car and they all went, in a blind panic, "Whoa, whoa! What are you doing? Not so fast!" They wanted to sit there for 20 minutes and have a chat before they stirred themselves to get out. Multiply that for about four or five calls, plus driving, plus the waiting in the car while others go to the door ... what a farce. And they really believe THAT is what will get them through Armageddon.

Fascinating to see how current publications turn what really should be an utter embarrassment into a matter of pride.
From 1918 until 1925, the talk “Millions Now Living Will Never Die,” which explained the hope of everlasting life on earth, was presented by Jehovah’s servants in over 30 languages worldwide.
The book, of course, did more than "explain the hope of everlasting life"; it made a dogmatic prediction about a specific date that was quickly shown to be 100 per cent wrong. WTS publications correctly assume that their drones will make no attempt to verify their statements. When I studied the Revelation book I accepted what it said (pg. 165) when it described "The Finished Mystery" as "a powerful commentary on Revelation and Ezekiel. Only after I left the religion did I read parts of that book and realise what rubbish it was.

@dgp I was about to make the same observation.
Poor Ashley doesn't realise his religion now tells him not only what music he can and can't listen to but how to live every aspect of his life. "Can I say this? Can I go to this show? Watch this program? Read this book? Accept this job? Talk to this person? Disagree with this statement? Marry this person? Leave this religion now?"
Control? What a goose.

I walked out of an Elder's Meeting
by AlmightyDog inwell here goes... i apologize in advance if this turns into a long and disjointed rant, but i just have to begin typing in order to keep from exploding.
i realize that what im about to say could seriously jeopardize my anonymity, but i think ive reached the point that i just dont care.
i want this to be over.. let me explain what caused me to rip up a letter and get up and walk out in the middle of an elders meeting two weekends ago.. our boe has been embroiled in a nasty fight for the past 2 years over a certain brothers business dealings.

We can all choose to be true to ourselves or to go on living a lie. It's your life. Live it.
I wasn't an elder, so I know your situation is harder, but once I discovered the concept that this organisation is being divinely guided is a myth, I walked. Who wants to live their life being controlled?

It takes enormous courage for a rank and file member to quit this awful manipulative, controlling and deceitful religion. It must take a lot more guts for an elder to stand down and then walk.

Watchtower Lawyers Response
by Marvin Shilmer inwatchtower lawyers response .
today i uploaded a new article to my blog comparing what a watchtower lawyer wrote in a medical journal with what watchtower had actually directed.
i think readers will find it of more than a little interest.

My experience was always that all baptised members of the congregation were given a card by their book study conductor, which is contrary to Ridley's statement. There was strong encouragement for everyone to fill them out and sign them out, but no checking that all had done so. If a person decided not to, (or neglected to do so) there was no coercion. That may not be the situation in all congregations, however.

Where did the author get the information? Does he
supply sources that can be checked?
That's the beauty of Wikipedia articles on Jehovah's Witnesses, the faithful slave, the Governing Body, the failed predictions and criticism of the religion in general: a verifiable source for every statement is provided.
