Sad about deleting your sisters on Facebook, ana_dote.
Surely your family is more important than the cult?
so this woman that i grew up with has sent me a friend request on facebook.
we've done a bit of back and forth "how are you" chat but i haven't accepted her request.. i can see she is still a jw because she belongs to some no-blood facebook group.. i do not want to be her friend on facebook.
i consider witnesses to be bad association and i severely limit the number of jw's i have on my facebook - only close family and people that i share close history with.. so what should i say to this woman?

All so interesting.
as in..."hi, my name is soa fraid and i hope you will accept my offer for a free home bible study.
the reason you should accept this free offer is that our leaders, the men who have compiled the material for this study receive direct communication from god, and he speaks to no other religion on earth.
they then write down what god has told them to, and publish it in a zillion languages so that we can teach people what god really meant in his new world translation of the holy scriptures...you may refer to it as the bible.
I think we should make them tea or iced tea and sit them down, the next time Jehovah's Witnesses call on us.
These poor, poor people. I feel so sad for them.

Householder: "Are you here to try and convert me into a Jehovah's Witness?"
Witness: "NOOOO! We are here to share a message from the bible."
The WT Society-sanctioned rationale for this blatant lie is that nobody can convert anybody - they must WANT to change their religion.
I realize that Jehovah is just what you say it is, my nickname.
Now we have God's zip code and phone number. This site is amazing.

Yes, I'm a former JW, technically baptized and never DF'ed....... so far a 100% successful fader. I can sense she's probably an in-forever type - but at the back of my mind is the thought that what if she were one of those Witnesses that just needs a prompt to know that it's okay to stop believing the crap, you know?
Then I think, why do I care so much? I like the idea of "killing with kindness", but that would mean I have to bring up my status as a definite non-JW. Should I even risk having her make trouble for me? She comes from an old-school (Bethelites/ pioneers/ elders) JW family that has, in a minor way when I was still "in", made trouble for me before on one of those cultish unwritten rules. Not her fault, but it's where she comes from.
I made the mistake, I think, of engaging in a catch-up conversation. Also, she and a close JW relative of mine are now FB friends, so she will be seeing my name around (wall comments and so on) so it will be pretty obvious that I haven't added her. But I think that's the way I'm going to play it.
(Just to be clear, I don't severely limit the number of people I have on FB, I have hundreds of friends/ colleagues/ relatives/ schoolfriends/ acquaintances - I just limit the number of JW's I have on Facebook.)
I'll send her one last friendly message so as not to be rude, and then drop it, and hope she does too.
with all the attention being paid to new allegations of abuse cover-up in the catholic church i wonder:.
1. does this take the heat off the wts and are they hoping to slide through less scrutinized while the pope gets skewered by the media?
will the wts be stupid enough to try to capitalize on the catholics problems by printing articles critical of them?.
I agree with this....
The point is not whether pedophilia takes place in a church, it's what the church does about it.
But Jordan12, are you serious......?
Of course pedophilia can happen in any religion. But Catholic priests were simply transferred to other dioceses, whereas every Witness in a position of responsibility proved to be doing anything immoral with children has lost his privileges, if he was not disfellowshipped.
I think you need to do a bit more reading. This site is a good starting point. Search the threads started by Barbara Anderson, ex Brooklyn Bethel Writing Department member, to kick off.
I can't do your work for you but here you go, let me make it easier for you.... http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/member/18048/started/1
there is quite a list many i have never heard of.
i've done this before but this adds a lot of names - a lot.
gregg alexander - the new radicals' lead singer; raised by mother papa dee allen of the 70s-80s rock group war.
I find these celebrity-JW threads interesting, as do most of us, but still feel sad that just being touched by the Witnesses (attending a few meetings as a child for example) forever associates one with the cult.
Sends shivers up my spine.

See, Jehovah's Witnesses have a conflicted relationship with the Catholic Church. On one hand #1 they condemn the Church in writing and from the podium and do everything they can to point out how different the (little pimple of an) organization is from the Catholics. (Eg. rituals, doctrines, history, hierarchy, papalism, etc.)
Then, when it suits them, they #2 use Catholic examples to illustrate that the JW religion isn't really a cult. (Eg. believe in Jesus and the bible, disfellowshipping/excommunication, preaching/missionaries, etc.)
So in this latest scandal my bet would be that Witnesses who are NOT aware of similar issues within the Society would say something along the lines of "it just proves that Catholics are a false religion" (ie #1), and Witnesses who ARE aware of similar issues within the Society would say something along the lines of "oh, all religions are made up of imperfect humans" (ie #2).
Besides all this I'm single, relativley attractive, not vicious and girlfriendless at this time. I used to post on this board as chappy but they couldn't get my password straightened out. Now I go by chapstick. You can see my picture and my vital info. under the name chappy, ( (John (Jack) Chapman))later.

Last time I checked this wasn't a dating site, but thanks for all the personal info, hopefully someone somewhere will find it useful.
My word is resurrection. That's one absurd concept that JW's have in common with Christians and is just cuckoo. It also stops people from living this life to the fullest.
