Lett briefly addresses the child abuse issues in new JW.org video
by Richard_I ini just read about this on the ex-jw subreddit.
link to the video (10m06s).. skip to 7:35 where he says: "another way we can contribute to the oneness - rejecting false stories that are designed to separate us from jehovah's organization.
as an example, think about the apostate-driven lies and 'dishonesties' that jehovah's organization is permissive toward pedophiles.

Look or freezeframe Letts facial expressions when he is talking about the abuse claims being lies and apostate, etc. You can see the wolf behind the sheeps clothing there. -

Child Abuse must be getting out of hand if they're addressing it...
by thedepressedsoul ini'm referring to the video that was uploaded where they finally mentioned the child abuse issue.
we all kinda guessed that if they ever addressed it they'd blame it on the media and apostates.
well, looks like we were spot on.

First law of thermodynamics vs God vs Big Bang
by EndofMysteries infirst law of thermodynamics, that energy cannot be created or destroyed but changed from one form to another.
how does that fit in with god and the big bang to you?
does it make one make more sense then the other to you?

We can't claim that God exists and then turn around and say, "He's undetectable and exists outside of space/time." That is, by its very definition, non-existence.
Thanks to the modern age of computers, a good example of how this is possible can be explained. Have you ever played a video game? A game where programmers created an entire world, with characters, weather, etc. Programmers must define the laws in that world. What is possible, what is random, what is not random, etc. Imagine them creating a very detailed and automated world. Imagine the characters instead of being pre programmed with what they would do, they had very high AI and were able to learn, become self aware, and make choices, etc. You would be the God of that world. They can't see you, you can't ever physically enter it because you exist outside of it (unless you pull a TRON). That example is a very real possibility. Since it can be done, what's to say a similar concept is not what has happened with us?

First law of thermodynamics, that energy cannot be created or destroyed but changed from one form to another.
How does that fit in with God and the Big Bang to you? Whether you believe in one, any, or both? Does it make one make more sense then the other to you?
To me....if God exists then if energy always is and can't be created or destroyed but changed from one form to another then it would fit in with God, and would mean that everything in existence came from his power.
For the big bang, it would not make sense that this energy came out of nothing and seems to violate that. The only way it would make sense to me would be if the big bang is an infinite cycle, the same concept as the formation and end of stars, all parts of the universe eventually get drawn together and condense and create a big bang and the cycle repeats.
If both, then God would have expelled some of his energy to create the universe and that was the big bang.
I find it no easier to understand the law of thermodyamics then God always having existed. Those who don't believe there could be an eternal God, do you find the law of thermodynamics easier to believe?
Where did the energy initially come from since the law prevents it from being created? Doesn't make any more sense then God always having been.

I wish they had details on what exactly was inside it. Even though it's microscopic, I'm sure they've ran some sort of test. Unless it was too compromised or denaturized to be of any use at that point. -

marked. So the WT's on the library started in 1950 but Awakes not till 1970. Is this one article the reason? They really tried to bury that?
I also remember in the early 90's as a kid that the congregations were ordered to get rid of the really old literature from the congregation libraries.

Freedom, Free speech, Censorship, Religion and Tight Pants
by Simon inyou would need to be living in a cave to not be aware of the turmoil happening in the world with groups like isis murdering cartoonists over their depiction of their prophet and sides being taken to either attack religion or to defend the right to practise it.. the battle lines appear to be drawn between those who believe in freedom and those who would see it curtailed to be replaced with their own version of what is and isnt acceptable.
most people want freedom and free speech but when choosing it are perhaps unconsciously judging it to only apply to things that they themselves believe in.. we need to be crystal clear what freedom and free speech were really talking about.
freedom itself is usually easier to define as there are some fundamental principles: you should be allowed to do what you want as long as you are not harming others.

How and why would any government ban the ability of this one group to follow this one behavior vs other groups and other beliefs?
People can be free to make their own choices and treat people how they choose to do so. But when the groups leadership puts in writing things such as, "Don't look for excuses to talk to your family, even by email", the government can put a stop to that. That order members to shun family be not allowed and each to decide on their own.
Tell us how it would be enforced - would a government official accompany you to someone's house and command them to talk to you?
The law could hold the GB and printers responsible for what they print. They could get things from jail time or even just loosing charity and non taxable status. If a charity is teaching hate and breaking up families, why should they be exempt from taxes? I bet that the $ would make the GB change their tone real quick!
What is the point of demanding something if it would be utterly and absolutely impossible to legislate? Have you read the articles on the florist who refused to give gay couples flowers for their weddings. Their beliefs weren't honored on them not believing in gay marriage. The law didn't tell them to just go elsewhere as many others would be willing to sell flowers. So when a religions leaders are instructing to do something harmful to children, families, etc, why would that be 'impossible' to legislate? It's far from impossible.
We have to be pragmatic - how would a court decide what was hurting vs "protecting the congregation" as the WTS would claim?
The court could make and force them to uphold what they claim and try to sell to the public their policies as. Since they try to make their policy under FAQ appear to be that family ties remain no matter what, only no spiritual talk, the court could force them to uphold it that way. They try to recruit members claiming worst case if anybody in the family leaves is no more spiritual talk but still family, that they abide by that. Or put a big disclosure on their study material like cigarette companies, etc, are required to do, "By joining Jehovah's Witnesses, if anybody in the family later on leaves, those who remain are required to shun them for life should they never return. It doesn't matter whether they break laws in the bible or not, we believe those who don't obey the Governing Body must be shunned." They can force a real disclosure of their true beliefs upfront instead of beating around the bush and trying to whitewash it.
