I'm not a fan of Big Al... but check out this article to get some perspective on how much he contributed to the Internet as we know it today...

Again, 'creating' the internet was legislation which he helped make happen. Was his wording poorly chosen? You bet.

Edited to add: Argh! I can't believe I'm even in a discussion about Al Gore! How did this happen?!

Creating the internet as we know it was an act of legislation, in which he played a role . Inventing the internet was done in the '70s, which he did not claim to do.

So I'm not sure that I've made an ass of myself just yet

Again, parading around old discredited misconceptions doesn't make Al Gore look any better or worse... regardless of his achievements, or lack thereof.

And everyone also knows that Big Al did not claim to invent the internet. It's funny that people will still pull out their old misconceptions and parade them around, imagining that it is making someone ELSE look silly.

Ray Franz has had a stroke

just setting the record straight.

there is another thread that notes a claim on wiki that said that ray has died.. he had a stroke yesterday, and is in the hospital.

he is still alive.

I truly hope that this isn't the end for such a sweet, gentle, kind man. A real man who stood up for what is right in the face of such opposition. Let's keep up the outpouring of prayers, well wishes, kind thoughts, and vibes for both Ray and Cynthia.

Typical email exchange I just had with a JW

most of the emails that i receive from jws are short and to the point - i am wrong and jehovah will soon exact vengeance on me.

they never identify where i am wrong.

Her statements reflect an anger that I felt when I first found apostate stuff on the internet, back in '95 or so. I wrote an angry, emotional, accusation-filled email to the person. Their reply was polite, and asked that I elaborate on my accusations. I recognized that the person was handling themselves better than I was, but took it no further.

I wish I had... but that person's reply to my message stuck with me for a long time.
